DORCHESTER | “Compete” and “show out” was the mission for Airport quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1467834' first='Jay' last='Eady'] (pictured) Sunday at Woodland High School.

He and seven teammates looked to stand out among the rising sophomores and juniors at the Carolinas Coaches Combine.

From an overall performance standpoint, Eady appeared to help himself. His physical measurements and times posted in the combine runs fit the profile sought by college scouts.

During the individual drills, Eady also showed a smooth throwing motion. He was also comfortable running option plays with running backs during the competitive portion of the combine.

Several other non-award winners also appeared to help their recruiting stock Sunday:

[player_tooltip player_id='1172370' first='Kanye' last='Reed'] WR, Hammond

Following the spring semester at Blythewood, the rising junior is headed to Hammond School. The Skyhawks are getting a strong receiver who can consistently get open downfield. Reed constantly keeps his eyes on the football running a route and can back track to field underthrown passes.

[player_tooltip player_id='1615021' first='Dexter' last='Chavous'] DL, Silver Bluff

One of the bright spots on last year's Bulldogs' defense. His imposing weight, height and wingspan as a freshman made him an intimidating presence upfront. Chavous jumped off the snap with ferocity and manhandled the offensive linemen in his path. As he continues to mature, expect teams to develop blocking schemes involving more than one player.

Robert Grant DL, Fort Dorchester

The rising junior demonstrated his pass rushing skills during Sunday's competitive portion of the combine. A two-sport athlete who also plays basketball, Grant's athleticism jumped out during the combine events. Another defensive lineman who looked to benefit from the coaching instructions provided in Woodland.

[player_tooltip player_id='1271262' first='Alex' last='Tchoryk'] DL, Phillip Simmons

The rising junior has developed into one of the Lowcountry's top two-way players. This past season, he tallied 49 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He was also utilized effectively as a tight end. Tchoryk had a touchdown reception and was an effective lead blocker who helped the running game produce over 2,200 yards. His height and wingspan enabled him to hold an advantage against opposing tacklers during the competitive drills.

[player_tooltip player_id='1467808' first='Anthony' last='Simmons'] OL, North Charleston

The rising sophomore was effective early in his career on special teams. He had two blocks in the season-opener against Stall. His measurements further confirmed his imposing size on the field. The Cougars utilized him on both sides of the football. Simmons' raw natural ability enables him to overwhelm whoever is in his path. When used on the offensive line, he often opens a running lane for the ball carrier.

Jason Youmans WR, Bamberg-Ehrhardt

An All-Region selection, the rising junior developed into a deep weapon for quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='464885' first='Chanston' last='Crosby']. He showed an ability to fight off defenders after a reception. His speed on the field was faster than what was shown during the 40-yard dash and pro shuffle.

Richard Harley WR, Airport

He and Eady will look to develop into a productive offensive duo the next two seasons at Airport. His size and athleticism makes him difficult for a cornerback to tackle and defend. Harley is another two-sport athlete whose basketball skills transfer well to the gridiron.

[player_tooltip player_id='1151306' first='Bryson' last='McGee'] RB, Berkeley

The shortest measured player at the combine displayed a high ceiling. The rising sophomore rushed for 674 yards and three touchdowns last season. Much of the production occurred after he replaced injured backfield mate [player_tooltip player_id='1271259' first='Jessie' last='Brown']. He sees holes quickly and is difficult to bring down with just one tackler. Along with displaying upper body strength during the combine exercises, McGee can serve as an extra receiver.

[player_tooltip player_id='1819440' first='Nigil' last='Fripp'] RB, Battery Creek

Another running back who plays bigger than his measured frame. The rising sophomore showed quick agility and a string to his legs during the combine exercises. He also showed elusiveness during the competitive drills.

Jakell Jenkins LB, Colleton County

It's easy to see the big potential in the rising sophomore. Any concern about his height is erased watching him move around the field. He possesses quick instincts in pursuing the football. His upper body strength also enabled him to hold his own against bigger blockers. He's also effective as a pass defender.

[player_tooltip player_id='1604043' first='Sullivan' last='Damron'] LB, Lucy Beckham

The rising junior is a two-way player for the Bengals. Along with emerging as a leader on defense, he's also managed punting duties. He showed no fear in battling larger blockers during the competitive drills. Damron also exhibited a leaner frame from this past season which has helped improve his speed level.
