There are a number of standout quarterbacks in the freshman class that I will eventually get to, but for the first report following the 2028 rankings update I wanted to focus on five guys who are on the cusp of a stepping-stone season this fall.

My teammate Jeremy Deckard already covered [player_tooltip player_id='1075837' first='Tevin' last='Cotter'] from Liberal (who is the #1-ranked QB in the new '28 rankings) and I recently reported on rising star Athlete/QB [player_tooltip player_id='1147299' first='Holden' last='Ferralez'] (who is the #5-ranked athlete in the updated rankings), so we are getting the quarterbacks covered incrementally.

I intend to cover all of the 2028 QB's in the current rankings one way or another this spring, as they are coming up on a crucial season for getting next-level attention.

And, as a reminder, keep in mind that players from the smaller schools sometimes rank higher in the early years of high-school since they get more opportunities to play varsity at a young age. However, the larger school guys eventually make up the difference once they start balling out.

Consequently, you may see your name bounce up and down through the years as the rankings are updated but keep grinding as we have you in our sights.

In this report we are featuring highly-ranked young gunslinger quarterbacks from throughout the state. I have covered most of these guys before and they have not disappointed.

So, without further adieu, let's take a closer look at the Tuesday 5:

[player_tooltip player_id='1083571' first='Braxton' last='Wagner'] , 6'1, 185, QB, BV North, '28, is the #2 QB in the 2028 class, and is one of the top young gun quarterbacks in the Kansas City area. He is a rising star with all the tools to take it to another level and is already on the D1 fast track, as he has visited Kansas, Kansas State and Nebraska among others. The Mustangs have a crowded QB room, with standout senior [player_tooltip player_id='904112' first='Lark' last='Anderson'] expected to start, so there will be ample opportunity to continue to fine-tune his high-ceiling game. I have been impressed with his throwing motion and mechanics, as well as his ability to to shred the defense off the RPO. He is also a multiple-sport prospect who is playing hoops and this spring will play baseball. Very bright future for this guy.

[player_tooltip player_id='1487563' first='Colton' last='Elmore'] , 5'10, 165, Wellington, '28, is the #3 QB in the 2028 rankings. He is a two-way baller who can play anywhere in the backfield or can split out on offense, as well as any of the secondary positions. Last fall he got acclimated to the varsity game on both sides of the ball, completing five passes in 11 attempts and ran and passed for 100+ yards and a touchdown. He also piled up 10 tackles, a tackle for loss and a sack when he got in on defense. With a graduating QB now moving on, he is being counted on to step up as the next young-gun Crusader QB in 2025. He is putting his youth days behind moving up to varsity but he was a legend in the youth football ranks with 100+ touchdowns in his career. This spring he is playing 7v7 with the Kansas Colts. He is getting ready for a banner season this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1433319' first='Cooper' last='Cranston'] , 6'0, 190. QB, Holcomb '28, is the #4-ranked quarterback in the 2028 rankings. He is coming off an excellent freshman season when he gave everyone a glimpse of great things to come. Backing up a senior QB, he didn't get many reps but dominated in other ways. On the year he completed six of nine passes for 47 yards, added 143 yards rushing on 16 carries, and also caught 15 passes for 353 yards, to give him 545 total yards and seven TD's. As good as he was on offense, he might be better on defense as he had 66 tackles, two tackles for loss and a pair of interceptions last fall. He is playing 7v7 with the Kansas Colts this spring. Get your popcorn ready, this guy is going to put on a show this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1542931' first='Trenton' last='Schartz'] , 6'2, 195, QB, Ellis '28, is the #6-ranked quarterback in the 2028 rankings. He is coming off an outstanding start to his high school career and led the state in passing yards among freshmen. He completed 85 of 186 passes for 1,326 yards and rifled 24 touchdown passes. He also rushed for 635 yards on on 108 carries, averaging six yards a carry and scoring 13 TD's. For the season, the rising star piled up just under 2,000 total yards and 37 touchdowns – incredible numbers for a freshman. He already has prototype size for the position and has the elite skill sets to be a dominating force in the air and on the ground this fall. He is already ahead of the game compared to most freshmen quarterbacks and is looking to get even better in the off-season. He is getting ready for a monster sophomore year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1590409' first='Tyler' last='Davis'] , 5'11, 170, QB, Shawnee Mission North, '28, is the #14-ranked quarterback in the 2028 rankings but I included him here as he is getting ready for a big season in 2025. He is a rising star young gun quarterback who I stumbled across in my off-season film review and am glad I did. As a passer he has already developed seamless mechanics with a strong arm. Once he decides where he is going, he quickly snaps the ball off on release and fires missiles at all levels. So far he is primarily a pocket passer, but is athletic and moves well when extending plays. He does a great job keeping his eyes downfield and waiting until the last second for his receiver to break open rather than default to the run when the play breaks down. This guy is going to light it up this fall.

In conclusion, get out and see these young guns - they are the next wave of top-end talent. And, as always, let me know if you run across any ballers flying under the radar. Keep grindin'
