Scout’s Notes: Runningbacks from the Northeast Middle School Camp

Below are personal scouting notes from the action I witnessed.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Scout's Notes: Running Backs</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I will admit it: I am a sucker for the smallest middle schoolers showing up and taking a dookie on the competition. Perhaps no prospect accentuated this than Romeer Rattliff. Measuring at 4'8" 80lbs, Rattliff played like he was 6'2" 180lbs. Unabashed by any linebacker from any grade he was matched up against, the current 6th grader had a little shake &amp; bake Ricky Bobby to him. More times than not Rattliff jukes and cut to avoid would-be tacklers in the cat &amp; mouse drill to win his rep. During indy Rattliff had, as you would probably expect, very light feet... [player_tooltip player_id='1590759' first='Nick' last='Pasqualone'] showed some power and good pad level when he ran the ball. He was maybe 5050 in terms of winning his individual reps during cat &amp; mouse drills. Pasqualone will benefit by shortening up his motions and controlling his body a bit more. This, naturally, will come as he grows bigger and stronger; however, doing so will make him more efficient in his movements and a tougher ball carrier to tackle.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Closing out are two backs on the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of ball security. First, [player_tooltip player_id='1590763' first='Ayden' last='Fernandez'] showed that he knows that the ball is the program. Fernandez seemed to prioritize ball security above all else when running through indy, 1-on-1s, and during competition. Fernandez also showed that he has quick feet in the process... A natural athlete who had a very good physique, [player_tooltip player_id='1590667' first='Julius' last='Reaves'] was another running back of note. Reaves did show me that he can make someone miss in space and I also liked that he ran with a forward lean. However, in my professional opinion I think that Reaves' future might be at another position as he embarks on his high school career.
