The Patriots reloaded at linebacker, with junior [player_tooltip player_id='487606' first='Daxton' last='Williams'] having a breakout season in his first full year as a starter. In his junior campaign, Daxton recorded 76 tackles, 14 TFLs, three sacks, an interception, and a blocked kick, playing a key part in Millard South's championship efforts. Daxton is a player who brings a mean, physical edge and a high-intensity motor to the field. Williams is very disciplined at understanding/reading his keys with a lightning-quick first step that shoots him downhill when he triggers the run. His powerful 5'11" and 210-pound frame allows him to shed off blocks at the line of scrimmage while keeping his eyes on the ball carrier. Once he's cleared the LOS, Williams flashes the closing speed to ensure the ball carrier is stopped before breaking off big runs (often leading to negative yardage).

First season in new threads was a successful one for junior [player_tooltip player_id='402140' first='Brenden' last='Ruth'], who came over from Seward and helped the Sky Hawks claim the state championship. Brenden started at safety for Skutt, where he flashed his quick instincts and rangy play. He has the speed and burst to cover large chunks of the field, with the closing speed to get to the ball carrier from anywhere. One part of Brenden's game that is really impressive is his willingness to step up into the box to help out against the run, displaying nice aggressiveness, good twitch at the LOS, and sound tackling technique. Ruth does an excellent job playing the ball in the air, flashing the ball skills to either break up passes or snag them for himself.

A big-time riser, especially after a very strong Stock Up showcase performance for Gretna East's [player_tooltip player_id='1217777' first='Liam' last='Norton']. Liam is a two-way trench warrior for the Griffins, playing defensive tackle and left guard, excelling at both spots. I was really impressed with Liam's potential on defense, where he easily moved blockers off the ball. At 5'11" and 240, Liam may be considered "undersized," but do not underestimate him and how good of a job he does at winning the leverage battle. He is very explosive from his hips, which helps him fire off at the snap and shoot his hand immediately, generating a great "pop" from his punch. Norton then can work his hands inside and tap into his strong base to drive blockers off their spot. North tallied 66 tackles, 10 TFLs, and 4.5 sacks as a junior. Very technically sound player who will only get better with another offseason of work!

Here's another prospect who donned a new uniform this season. After transferring from the former Humphrey St. Francis, [player_tooltip player_id='779706' first='Carson' last='Wessel'] joined the Scotus Catholic Shamrocks and quickly became their starting QB. Right off the bat, Carson stands out with a projectable size for a QB at 6'3" and 195 lbs, with an athletic build and room to keep on putting on muscle. When watching Carson's tape, it's easy to see that he is a creator from the pocket who can effortlessly evade the pass rush while spilling out of the pocket to keep the play alive with his legs. He does an excellent job keeping his eyes downfield, looking for a receiver to spring open before launching a missile deep down the field. Even on passes where he's off balance, it still seems Carson can deliver an accurate, timely ball to his receiver. Lots to be excited about with Wessel back under center for the 2025 season.

Lincoln North Star's [player_tooltip player_id='1114434' first='Marcus' last='Wynne'] had a solid junior season that saw him rise as one of the top EDGE rushers in his class. Wynne recorded 49 tackles, 12 TFLs, and seven sacks as the Gators marched to back-to-back playoff berths. Wynne is a shifty and speedy pass rusher who can use his explosiveness at the snap and great bend to bring pressure off the edge. He does a great job using his hands to brush away attempts at grabbing him. Excellent finisher in the backfield, Wynne has the closing speed and insane pursuit to chase down ball carriers even when coming from the backside of the play. There is still some room to grow physically, but that will come with some time.
