It's been a fun 2024 campaign and we're expecting the state finals to be no different. We've got some serious talent gearing up to battle in Arlington.

Today, I'm looking at which sophomores we need to keep an eye on moving forward. These guys were all varsity contributors this fall and made an impact for their respective teams. They're still developing as prospects and have their best football ahead of them.

LB: Ashton Lofton, 6" 210, Fort Bend Marshall

An inside linebacker prospect with good instincts as a hook dropper, the ability to bend when taking on blocks at the point of attack, and impressive ball skills. He sniffs out inside screens, he's tough filling between the tackles, and can get after the passer on called blitzes.

DB: Andy Turnbow, 6" 170, Lovejoy

Andy anticipates throws and jumps in front of the target, he's got exceptional tracking speed behind the line and is a surprising thumper for a kid his size. He's a playmaker against both the run and pass & plays downright fearless. He plays right now as an outside linebacker, but I think he'll move to safety at the next level.

ATH: [player_tooltip player_id='1563131' first='SaRod' last='Baker'] 5'10" 185, DeSoto

Baker is slippery between the tackles, he runs with good forward body lean and he never allows his feet to stop charging on impact. I think his versatility is his best asset as he can not only line up in the backfield and handle a high carry count, but he also has an in-depth route tree that he can utilize as a receiver on the perimeter.

WR: Dylan Jaeger, 6'2" 200, Round Rock

Dylan is put together for a young receiver, he's a crafty route runner against main coverage and turns into a physical runner after the catch. He's a possession receiver that can generate an abundance of separation between he and the defender. He's quicker than he is fast, he's a north and south runner with the ball in his hands and consistently caps off runs falling forward.

QB: [player_tooltip player_id='1567990' first='Camden' last='Hughes'] 6'2" 180, The Woodlands College Park

Hughes glides up and around the pocket, he's willing to stand tall with pressure coming inbound and shows plenty of arm to stretch the field vertically. He's got some wheels & can gash defenses on the ground, he throws with anticipation and consistently drops throws of thirty yards plus right in the breadbasket.
