South Plaquemines entered the weekend considered one of the underdogs of this year's LHSAA Prep Classic state championships.

But the Hurricanes had felt overlooked and counted out before and didn't blink at the matchup with top-seeded Haynesville, the big stage, any outside doubts or a one-point halftime deficit.

Coach Lyle Fitte's squad controlled the bulk of the game and, in particular, the second half — even against a deeper Golden Tornado roster — and went on the 20-7 victory and the programs' first title since his own playing days in 2007 and 2008.

Here's a look at eight eye-catchers from the Division-IV Non-Select contest.

[player_tooltip player_id='1596605' first='Jy'Heim' last='Williams'] — 5-9, 165 ATH — South Plaquemines (2025)

The versatile senior athlete was the clear Outstanding Performer of the Division-IV Non-Select game with all three of the Hurricanes' touchdowns, plus a late interception that helped close out the victory. "Chubb" finished with six catches for 114 yards and two touchdowns and 15 carries for 45 yards and the other score. He also provided a 50-yard kick return and five tackles that made him among the team leaders in that category.

Trevontae Williams — 6-2, 235 LB/DL/RB — South Plaquemines (2025)

The Hurricanes' other senior Williams spent half the game in backfield to help allow Jy'Heim to split out wide and get his speed on the perimeter. And in those opportunities, Trevontae provided a physical and productive presence to the tune of 10 carries for 62 yards, showing the ability to not only power his way to tough yardage between the tackles, but also to bounce into the open field for big gains, such as a 28-yarder that was the most explosive of the game. He also finished with five tackles.

[player_tooltip player_id='1596636' first='Alex' last='Phillips'] — 5-11, 180 LB/ATH — South Plaquemine (2025)

Even in a jersey number that didn't match the roster, another of the South Plaquemines senior leaders was easy to identify. Phillips flew around the middle of the field and made one explosive tackle after another, starting early and not letting up on his way to a game-high nine stops.

[player_tooltip player_id='1601799' first='Roderick' last='Parker'] — 5-8, 185 QB — South Plaquemines (2026)

The junior quarterback was efficient with his opportunities with a 10-for-13 passing night for 114 yards, including an early 33-yarder deep to [player_tooltip player_id='1596605' first='Jy'Heim' last='Williams'], and a pair of touchdowns. He also rushed for 20 yards on his four carries, a solid 5.0-yard average, and didn't give up any turnovers.

[player_tooltip player_id='1596632' first='Deanel' last='McGee Jr.'] — 6-4, 220 LB/WR — South Plaquemines (2025)

McGee was somewhat of a breakout performer in our first time watching him, as the senior with a college frame and build was a disruptive force off the edge with two sacks and a pair of quarterback hurries. McGee finished with four tackles.

[player_tooltip player_id='1237635' first='Isaiah' last='Washington'] — 6-1, 170 QB/ATH — Haynesville (2026)

The junior quarterback and two-way athlete was among the brighter spots for the Golden Tornado despite the stingy defensive effort by South Plaquemines. Washington completed just four of his 20 passes — a number hurt by a few drops by his targets — for 53 yards and the team's only touchdown, a 14-yarder to Jermarquis Hampton in the second quarter. He also led the team with 38 yards rushing — or 52 outside of the Hurricanes' two sacks — and finished second on the team with six tackles and a near-intercepted pass breakup down the middle of the field.

[player_tooltip player_id='914221' first='Keizavion' last='Woods'] — 6-3, 215 LB — Haynesville (2025)

The college-bound senior linebacker capped his productive high school career with another team-high tackling performance with eight stops on the afternoon, plus a forced fumble and caught a 6-yard pass on the other side of the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='1596587' first='Zykerius' last='Fielding'] — 6-2, 265 DB — Haynesville (2025)

The long, speedy corner was another of the Golden Tornado's defensive standouts in his final high school game and showed his physicality and nose for the ball in the run game with six tackles, also among the team's top totals, and a quick pounce on the loose ball forced by Woods.
