BLYTHEWOOD | The debut in a Blythewood uniform for [player_tooltip player_id='473013' first='Carter' last='Coleman'] (pictured above) went well. The Ridge View transfer came up with two touchdowns, one of which was a kickoff return just before halftime in the Bengals' 44-6 rout over Nation Ford.

“He's special. He understands what we're trying to do on the offense and he can get open. He's very shifty and is very dangerous because you worry about him and then you have others like Ben Hendrix and [player_tooltip player_id='1172370' first='Kanye' last='Reed'] and CJ Johnson. We've got four weapons at receiver so, it's going to be hard for people to chime in on just one person but I'm excited for Carter and what he did tonight and I think the rest of our guys are going to keep stepping up,” Blythewood head coach James Martin said of Coleman and the Bengals' offense.

But for a good chunk of the first half, it was a defensive battle as neither team could get much going offensively, outside of a Blythewood field goal on the opening series to make it 3-0 Bengals with 9:06 in the first quarter.

For almost every chunk play early, each team would then shoot themselves in the foot. Jaydon Scott made a big play down the right sideline to set the Falcons up for a score near the end of the first quarter. But the Falcons were stuffed on 4th and short. Blythewood connected with [player_tooltip player_id='1172370' first='Kanye' last='Reed'] for a 53-yard completion, before Jamari Gore ended the Bengals' scoring threat with an interception with 10:07 to play before the half.

Blythewood would begin to create some separation in the second quarter with a pick six from Darryl Robinson, increasing the lead to 10-0 with 5:59 to play in the second quarter. Later on, John Henry Collins connected with Coleman on a 39-yard completion for a touchdown with 2:02 to play before the half.

Nation Ford would strike back with an impressive drive to end the half as [player_tooltip player_id='1575359' first='Carson' last='Sanford'] connected with Scott in the back right corner to make it 17-6 Blythewood. The Falcons were missing eight senior starters tonight, including star wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1575429' first='Josh' last='Ameo'].

That's as close as the Falcons would get as the Bengals went on to score four unanswered touchdowns in the second half – with Hendrix getting involved on scores of 69 and 48 yards from Collins, as well as Reed, all a part of an impressive opening evening for the Bengals. Tyrese Drakeford had an interception and [player_tooltip player_id='1312432' first='Jace' last='Shropshire'] had a fumble recovery in the second half as well.

“We're going to get better across the board. We'll go back to work, it's just like I told them. We're going to go back to work and increase our toolbox and just get better at what we do. Once you get those eight players back, that'll help a little bit. I'm excited to get back with them, man. It's a great group. They're not going to quit. They're not a quitting type group and once we get back healthy, hopefully we can play a little better. I told them, "I can't wait to see you play next Friday night,” Nation Ford coach Mike Allen said.

Nation Ford will travel to York next Friday night, while Blythewood will host Midland Valley.
