The 2024 season is rapidly approaching, and as a way to start previewing it, I have decided to go district by district and choose a player from every team as a breakout candidate. The breakout candidates are players who are flying under the radar, young players biding their time, etc. These guys are set to make a big name for themselves in 2024. Check them out NOW!!!

The Crete Cardinals had a breakthrough season last year, earning a playoff spot for the first time since 2014. They will be looking to carry on that momentum this year behind a young but hungry squad that will have to step up at several key positions. One player who should shine through despite the uncertainty is senior receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1059051' first='Kenson' last='Spence'], who was second on the team in receiving last year with 15 receptions for 193 yards and a receiving touchdown. Kenson is a tall, athletic player who stands tall at 6'4" and 195 pounds with a lengthy reach. Spence's size and length make him a near-lock to come down with jump balls and a complete mismatch in redzone situations. This advantage will give the Card's new starting QB a reliable target who can create space for himself and has the catch radius to snag up anything thrown his way.

The Lincoln Northwest Falcons are looking to bounce back in year 2, and so is junior receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1354784' first='Zander' last='Goering']. Zander is looking to see himself in a bigger role next year after working back from some nagging injuries and having a strong spring/summer. I had the chance to watch Zander at a 7v7 tournament earlier this spring where he was a consistent "chain mover" on offense with his ability to slip into soft spots in coverage. Zander has good size at 6'1" and 185 pounds, with room to continue filling out his frame and the strength to fight off pressing DBs. I think there will be several players from Lincoln Northwest that will open some eyes this fall and if things keep trending up, Zander should have a great season!

Another player who is expected to play a bigger role next season is GI Northwest junior [player_tooltip player_id='795461' first='Dawson' last='Johnson']. Dawson has had quite the journey through his prep career, from playing quarterback in his freshman season to moving to DE before last year. Although Johnson still looked a little raw last year, he's been diligent at fine-tuning his craft this offseason. Johnson's get-off and use of hands will make him tough to block at the LOS. Dawson has also been hard at work in the weight room, bulking up his frame and improving his overall strength. Plenty of upside here!

Junior QB [player_tooltip player_id='1113956' first='Tresten' last='Hass'] displayed a ton of upside in his first season as QB1 for the Seward Bluejays. Tresten not only showed off his arm talent but also proved to be a threat on the ground. Hass completely nearly 60% off his passes for 1,516 yards and 9 passing touchdowns while also adding 536 rushing yards and 11 rushing scores. When watching Tresten's tape, I see a QB with a live arm that can complete passes to all levels of the field including the deep ball. He has good placement on his passes and can even fit the ball into tight windows when throwing over the middle of the field. He stands tall and confident in the pocket while going through his progressions but can also improvise on his legs and throw on the run when he needs to. Tough runner— won't hesitate to put his shoulder down to fight for extra yardage. Hass has also been a big part of Seward's secondary since his freshman season, with 42 total tackles and an interception in the past two seasons. Hass and Co. could be some serious players in Class B this season!

The York Dukes are a perennial playoff contender who consistently fields a solid unit in the trenches. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1059093' first='Keagyn' last='Linden'] will keep that train rolling as he will be back as a key starter on the offensive and defensive line. Keagyn is coming off a tremendous year that somewhat went under the radar despite recording 85 tackles, 4 TFLs, and 3 sacks. When you watch Keagyn's tape, it's clear that he has quite the nose for the football with his ability to track the ball and has the motor to flag down the ball carrier even if they are several yards downfield. He moves extremely well for his size, showing nice nimbleness on his feet and great lateral explosiveness. I like Keagyn's violent streak on the defensive side, showing off his aggressive use of hands and ability to shed from blocks. Keagyn has caught some attention as of late with offers from Southwest Minnesota State, Midland, and Chadron State with several other schools keeping close tabs. Big year coming up for the York prospect!
