And, like many of their counterparts around the state, the Indians and Eagles saw a slew of strong performances from athletes with football backgrounds and futures among their highlights.
Here’s a look at the more than 60 student-athletes we know with varying high school football backgrounds — including several notable Division-I prospects — who scored points for their teams in the meet.
Germain Smith-Mata — 5-11 DB — Warren Easton (2024)
The Eagles’ standout sprinter, who also has some football background on his high school resume, earned Outstanding Performer honors in Class 4A with his sweep of the sprints, including a composite-record 10.13-second 100-meter dash, a 21.24-second 200-meter and 47.70-second 400-meter. Smith-Mata also ran a leg of the Eagles’ second-place 4×400-meter relay (3:21:32).
Roy Morris Jr. — 5-11, 155 DB/WR — Evangel Christian (2024)
Morris helped highlight a strong day for his own Eagles with a win in the long jump (23-09.50) and anchoring of the winning 4×200-meter (1:28.20) and second-place 4×100-meter (42.35) relay teams with Joshua Isaac, Johnny Casey Johnny Casey 5'9" | 155 lbs | DB Evangel | 2026 State LA Jr. and Tyreek Robinson Tyreek Robinson 5'9" | 150 lbs | ATH Evangel Christian | 2024 State LA . He also ran a 23.25-second 200-meter dash, an eighth-place finish in Class 4A.

The Southeastern Louisiana signee was the top performer in the throwing events in Class 4A with his win in the shot put (53-06.00) and second-place finish in the discus (138-03.00).
Anthony Allen — 6-1 DB/WR — The Willow School (2026)
The sophomore safety helped highlight a strong day for The Willow School in both the girls and boys competition with his 800-meter victory (1:56.98) and legs in the class record-setting 4×800-meter relay (7:56.34) and the fourth-place 4×400-meter relay (3:22.85).

The Indians’ versatile athlete finished second in the 300-meter hurdles (38.37) third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.12) and ran a leg of the third-place 4×400-meter relay (3:22.18).
Delaney Gunnar — 5-11, 200 DL/LB — Tioga (2024)
The big edge rusher helped lead his Indians’ state championship performance with his win in the javelin (169-01.00).
Armidre Evans — 5-11, 160 DB — Westgate (2024)
The long, lead Tigers defensive back said he felt doubted entering the day, but swiftly disproved any potential critics with his victories in both the 110-meter hurdles (14.34) and 300-meter hurdles (38.02) before also running a leg of the seventh-place 4×400-meter relay (3:25.04).
