During this lull between Spring practice and the start of Summer workouts there is not a better place to find hidden gems than scouring the stat sheets from the 2023 season. Below are (4) 2027 running backs that have the potential to see their varsity carries increase this Fall.

Braxen McMahan (Sonoraville)

I got excited when I came across McMahan. The 5'8 145 RB is right here in my backyard and even with the amount of film review and scouting I do in the NWGA area, he still somehow slipped under my radar. He only had 16 carries during his freshman season but made the most of them averaging over 12 ypc and scoring 2 TDs. He had the opportunity to come in late vs Dalton and get a handful of productive carries, rushing 5 times for 125 yards and a score in a 50-14 loss. He had a good 1st varsity track season posting a best 10.98 in the 100. The Sonoraville Phoenix have an outstanding offseason weight program and after a few off seasons of hitting the weights this young RB could put up some numbers on the football field.

[player_tooltip player_id='644780' first='Waseem' last='Murray'] (Brunswick)

Murray is more of a WR than a RB but we will put this versatile guy in the ATH category. The 8th Grade UA All American had a productive Freshman season totaling over 300 total yards on just 24 touches, both on the ground and receiving. He recently measured in at the MVP Camp, where he took home Outstanding honors, at 5'11 158. He has grown 3 inches taller and added 20 pounds since last off season. Depending on how his growth and development go, I could see Murray stepping into multiple roles for Pirates in the future. This Spring he posted an 11.28 in the 100m and should be a sub 11.00 guy before his high school career is over.

[player_tooltip player_id='942192' first='Bradyn' last='Oblas'] (Blessed Trinity)

Not your traditional freshman RB at 6'2 210 but Oblas gets it done. A very determined and gritty North South runner that is a throwback to the traditional FB days. He is not going to blow you away at this point in his high school career with his yards per carry stats but he is a chain mover. A multisport athlete that also excels on the diamond. It will be interesting going forward to see how he develops physically and with his size if he remains in the Titan backfield this Fall. Good LB prospect on the other side of the ball.

Nathan Couget (Johnson-Gainesville)

The 5'9 172 RB/LB is an old school type player that is going to be an important part of the Johnson program over the next 3 years. Just joined the 800 pound club in the annual Knights Spring Lift-A-Thon. He had limited carries last season on offense with 14 but could see more work this Fall. His bread and butter for the Knights is on the defensive side of the ball where he accounted for 30 TT with 9 TFL, with 8 of those coming in the final month of the season. Tough, gritty football player that Johnson fans will enjoy watching over next 3 seasons.
