Predicting Every Team's 2024 MVP: Region II-4A

Region II-4A is one of several spots statewide that will feature almost an entirely new look thanks to realignment. The defending region champions are still around, as Greer will look to defend last year's title. They're joined, though, by a Daniel team that has won three of the last four 3A state titles and which will be returning to the 4A classification after a long 3A run.   Here's a look at some players we think will have the most impact for their respective teams in the 2024 season.   Berea Bulldogs   [player_tooltip player_id='1254205' first='Amazay' last='Robinson'] QB, 2025   Robinson is a dynamic athlete who just happens to play QB for Berea. He could line up any number of places and be right at home. He tallied a 500-yard game as a freshman, and has grown from there. He makes great downfield throws, he puts the ball into a tight window with ease, and he's good on the move. He's also deadly with his legs when he has to take off, and on designed runs.    Blue Ridge Tigers   [player_tooltip player_id='833941' first='KB' last='Henderson'] RB, 2025   Henderson is an absolute workhorse. He carried the ball more than 200 times for the Tigers last season, picking up more than 1,300 yards, averaging more than 118 yards per game, and scoring 16 touchdowns. Henderson totaled 1,752 all-purpose yards and 17 scores on the season. He's got plenty of speed, he runs with great balance and vision, and he's so physical that you'd better bring a couple of hats if you intend on stopping him.    Daniel Lions   [player_tooltip player_id='1157945' first='Spencer' last='Conn'] LB, 2025   The Lions are loaded pretty much everywhere, and this is a nod that could go to a bunch of players at a bunch of positions. However, Conn (pictured) is the heartbeat of a Lions defense that allowed just more than 14 points per game in an undefeated season, and won by more than that margin 12 of 15 times. He's a tackle machine, notching 148 stops with 15 for loss a year ago. He added seven sacks, an interception, three pass deflections, four fumble recoveries, and a blocked punt.    Greer Yellow Jackets   [player_tooltip player_id='1405166' first='Aiden' last='Jones'] DL 2026   Greer's defense looks loaded, with a ton of guys who made a bunch of stops returning. However, there's a chance that none will have as much havoc-creating potential as Jones. He basically lived in opponents' backfields a year ago, notching 17 tackles for loss and a team-high 7.5 sacks as a sophomore. He's big enough to play tackle and quick enough to play end, and Jones does a little bit of both for the Yellow Jackets. He's got a great first step and gets a good push up front, and he does a good job chasing down plays from behind when teams run away from him.      Pickens Blue Flame   [player_tooltip player_id='1359200' first='Carter' last='McCollum'] RB, 2025   McCollum was a force for the Blue Flame as a junior. He picked up nearly 1,400 yards on more than 260 carries, scoring 10 times and adding almost 100 yards and another TD as a receiver. He's one of those rare guys who's patient and sudden at the same time, able to wait for a hole to develop and then explode into the secondary. A bunch of his yards come straight up the middle, right through the heart of a defense.    Seneca Bobcats   [player_tooltip player_id='1165153' first='Gavin' last='Thoma'] QB, 2026   Thoma is a big-armed QB who has no problem making any throw he's asked to make. He threw for more than 2,300 yards as a sophomore, accounting for 25 TDs for the Bobcats. He's got great touch, particularly downfield, and does a good job with progressions. He can take off when he needs to, but one of the most impressive things about him is his ability to hang in the pocket in the face of pressure and still deliver a good ball, on time and where it needs to be.    Travelers Rest Devildogs   [player_tooltip player_id='1592576' first='Lucas' last='Tankersley'] LB, 2026   Tankersley is a returning all-region player for the Devildogs, and one of Travelers Rest's unquestioned leaders on the defensive side of the ball. He's also kind of a prototype for what you're looking for at the position. He's got fantastic speed off the edge when he rushes the passer, he closes on the ball well and does a good job in pass coverage, he's a fantastic run-stopper, and he's physical in every aspect of the game.
