Over 70 New Mexico prospects are registered to compete Saturday in the Prep Redzone Combine at Grants High School. Many of the top young players in the Albuquerque Metro Region and throughout the state will be there. Here are 10 defensive players to watch:

[player_tooltip player_id='853566' first='Isaiah' last='Goree'], La Cueva: Goree is listed at as a WR and DB for the Bears. We'll talk about him here as a DB. He could compete at both spots on Saturday. Also runs track and serves as the anchor for the Bears' 4x100 relay team. Good speed.

[player_tooltip player_id='1118395' first='Logan' last='Gosnell'], Bloomfield: Gosnell is one of the top LB prospects in the Four Corners. His nickname is ‘Thor' for a reason.

Isaiah Gomez, Pojoaque Valley: A 2027 prospect, Gomez has the potential to become one of the top DE/OLB players in northern NM. He's already 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. He'll keep growing and developing.

[player_tooltip player_id='1137830' first='Pete' last='Johnson'], St. Michael's: One of the top linebackers in northern New Mexico. Johnson led the Horsemen in tackles in 2023, a head-turning stat considering the quality of the St. Mike's defense.

Douglas Mitchell, Grants: Mitchell was a solid contributor to the Grants defense last season as a sophomore. He made 25 tackles in 6 games. If he stays healthy, he could put up impressive numbers for the Pirates in 2024.

Ke'Maurion Morrall, Alamogordo: Another intriguing player who will make the long trip from SE New Mexico to Grants for Saturday's Combine. He's a 6-foot-1, 225-pound DE who makes plays.

[player_tooltip player_id='853576' first='Tayvon' last='McCoy'], Cleveland: If you follow McCoy on Twitter, you know he's a workout warrior, runs track and rarely turns down an opportunity to compete. He'll try to break into the Storm lineup this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='851890' first='Taye' last='Silversmith'], Miyamura: Silversmith plays both ways but his future at the next level might be at defensive end. He's listed at 6-foot-2, 245 pounds. We saw him at the ENMU camp last year and Silversmith was impressive. Numerous schools have invited him to camp.

[player_tooltip player_id='837220' first='Juan' last='Vigil'], Valley: Vigil is one of the most intriguing defensive players in Albuquerque. He's 6-foot-5, 285 pounds and moves well. He had 16 TFL in 2023, so he knows how to disrupt offenses.

Zach Waghorn, Albuquerque Academy: Waghorn has one of the best years of any LB in Albuquerque last season. He finished with an impressive 120 tackles and 9.5 TFL.
