So many guys at the high school level play on both sides of the ball out of necessity due to roster numbers or lack of depth a team may have. While some guys play on both sides of the ball because they display the skillset that is too valuable to take off the field at this level. Teams best players are often asked to play on both sides of the ball even if they specialize in one. This article is an overview of the top athletes in our rankings in some analysis of their two-way play this past season.

Morgan MacCubbin Morgan MacCubbin 6’2″ | 185 lbs | ATH West Delta | 2024 State CAD takes home the #1 athlete spot and he did so jumping a good margin up the rankings. The Next Five
Jacob Goldstone Jacob Goldstone 6’2″ | 215 lbs | ATH LeBoldus | 2024 State CAD is one of those guys whose position should just be “Football Player.” Wherever you put him, he will excel on the field and that is the case offensively, defensively, and even on special teams. A good example of his versatility is when is the last time you have seen a player wearing # 55 have over 750 receiving yards? Probably never. Goldstone produces on both sides of the ball and he does so with high level athleticism.
Shabanov, one of the many prospects from Ernest Manning who holds a spot high up in our rankings is the #3 ATH on this list. Shabanov has film impacting the game in all three phases and the Hybrid LB/S on defense, RB on offense, and overall ATH on the field has high level ball skills. With the ball in his hands he has good change of direction and a physical running style. He can cover ground in coverage and reads the game while, and showcases his athleticism on special teams.
Jeremy Ekhator Jeremy Ekhator 6’2″ | 190 lbs | ATH Leduc | 2024 State CAD is a prospect who is listed as an ATH because he was a classic example of a team playing their best athlete/player at quarterback even though at the next level Ekhator will play a different position. Highlights
Amanatey, an ATH for Robert F Hall has good size and good athleticism displaying the ability to produce both defensively at safety and as a wide receiver. Amanatey is a smooth athlete who showcases effortless change of direction skills and the ability to make plays in space. Amanatey shows solid ball skills and the ability to make competitive plays both offensively and defensively at the catch point.

Augustine Nkundimana Augustine Nkundimana 5’8″ | 160 lbs | ATH Dakota Collegiate | 2024 State CAD with the ball in his hands is one of the most dangerous playmakers in the country. Nkundimana showcases the ability to make plays with the ball both offensively and defensively. As a corner, he reads the game well, does a good job when asked to read the quarterback, and showcases quick reactive burst to the ball. Offensively you can get Nkundimana the ball in several ways but when he has it, he showcases good twitch and quickness with the ability to make guys miss in space.
Three Additional Prospects I Liked
Out of Handsworth in British Columia, Taigh Oneyar-Povey Taigh Oneyar-Povey 6’4″ | 210 lbs | ATH Handsworth | 2024 State CAD is a talented backer who plays in the backfield offensively and linebacker defensively. Oneyar-Pover has a long tall frame for a running back but his long strides and quick one-cut up field style lead to several long runs with burst and explosiveness through the hole. At linebacker, Oneyar-Povey has good range and the ability to use his length to make tackles from a distance and impact the pass game.

Rhonde Lyle Rhonde Lyle 5’10” | 170 lbs | ATH John Barsby | 2024 State CAD played a lot of running back, and although he played some defensively he showcases that he is a player who just is always around the ball. Offensively, you can tell on film the offense runs through him. Lyle has good lateral agility and the change of direction skills where he regularly makes guys miss in the open field. Defensively, his knack for being around the ball is evident as he sees the game well and is quick to be around the ball.
Highlights
Clark Campbell Clark Campbell 6’0″ | 175 lbs | ATH Medicine Hat | 2024 State CAD may have the most extensive two-way highlights of any prospect in our rankings and the SB/FS prospect is a solid playmaker offensively where he can impact the game as a runner from the backfield on sweeps and reverses while also being an impactful receiver creating separation down the field and on short area screens. Defensively Campbell is a physical downhill safety who shows good motor and pursuit to the ball and is a physical violent tackler in space.
