Hitchens was a solid two-way starter for Modena (RB/LB) rushing for over 600 yards and 9 TDs on offense and 3 INTs on defense. He’s a physical runner at 6’/195 that shows good vision at the LOS and can generate yards after first contact. On defense, he’s a committed tackler in the run game when playing between the OTs and shows his athleticism and agility in shallow zone coverage. His potential is likely maximized on defense at the next level with his ability to tackle and cover in space out on the perimeter. Look for Hitchens to continue to build off his strong junior season.
Steven Conde
Steven Conde
Conde’s a young, developing OL prospect out of San Diego’s South Bay (Chula Vista). He played primarily at RT as a sophomore but might be better suited for an OG position at the next level with his stout frame (6’2”/190) and ability to control defenders in close, short-range combat. Conde needs to continue to improve his hands, footwork, and technique as a blocker but his foundational tools/skillset are worth keeping an eye on as we head into the 2024 season.
Weaver is back at Oceanside after spending last season in Japan where he threw for over 1,300 yards as a junior. He’s an athletic dual-threat QB with natural arm talent as a passer. He’s comfortable operating from the pocket, can add velocity to fit into tight windows in the short-intermediate areas, and shows good touch and placement on the deep ball. He’s fast with his reads on quick-hitters and can get the ball out on time, but could be quicker and more efficient with his delivery/release. Weaver’s an intriguing QB to keep an eye on in the fall.
Highlights
Elijah Vasquez
Elijah Vasquez
Vasquez was highly productive out of the slot recording 80 catches for just under 1,200 yards and 16 TDs as a senior. He’s a slick playmaker after the catch that can produce explosive gains in the screen game and flashes ability to create separation on short/intermediate breaks. He shows great body control and adjustment downfield in the vertical passing game. He can work the seams and sidelines effectively but will need to be more precise and intentional as a route-runner to consistently create separation at the next level. Vasquez would be a solid late addition for any D-III/D-II looking for playmaking out of the slot.
