The amount of fire power on their offense alone can elevate them to becoming one of the top teams in the state. Right behind Weehawken is Bogota and Manchester. Both are returning talent on each side of the ball, and will look to dethrone Weehawken in 2024.
Eneaz Wells
Eneaz Wells
There is one word to describe how Eneaz Wells plays the game: electric. The Weehawken wide receiver tormented defenses in 2023 as he found his way to the end zone 11 times and racked up 555 receiving yards. Eneaz is particularly impressive when Weehawken gets him the ball early in the play. When they dump the ball off to him quickly Eneaz has the ability to make guys miss one after the other. A lethal jet sweep specialist as well, Eneaz is handed the ball in a full sprint and is able to maintain the speed as he turns the corner. Eneaz is a receiver that demands more than just one on one coverage.
A young running back returning for Manchester, Tyree Gunthrope Tyree Gunthrope 5’10” | 160 lbs | RB Manchester Regional | 2026 NJ has the the frame to not only be a speed threat but a future bruiser of a back as well. As he ran for 874 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2023, Tyree utilized his lateral quickness to bounce the play to the outside and avoid the traffic between the tackles. What stands out the most in Tyree’s running style is his ability to stay upright when defenders are nipping at his ankles. He is able to continue on downfield without ever losing a step.
The top returning running back in the division, Weehawken is returning not only two of the best offensive weapons in the division but possibly within the state as well. Rushing for 1211 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2023, Manny De La Hoz is one of those running backs that I think everyone should keep an eye on in 2024. One of the quickest pickups in the division, Manny accelerates through the hole and is past the line of scrimmage before defenders can even react. Just as impressive, Manny displays strength and power as he runs through the middle and is able to break free from arm tackles and rips at his jersey. Manny is a runner that deserves a higher rank within the state.
Amari Chestnut
Amari Chestnut
Shifty with the ball in his hands, Amari Chestnut can make defenders look silly as he makes them whiff on tackles anytime he touches the ball. Finding the end zone 6 times and racking up over 500 offensive yards, Amari is a hybrid athlete that can be utilized multiple ways in Manchester’s offense. Amari is extremely quick, and whether he’s running routes or running the ball, he’s able to leave defenders in the dust. With agility to go with the speed, Amari is able to get out of sticky situations as he dodges would-be tacklers that are determined to bring him to the ground.
