After gaining two commitments on Monday, the Cowboys secured two additional pledges from 2024 prospects on Tuesday – Mayfield LB Bobby Herrera Bobby Herrera 5'9" | 170 lbs | LB Mayfield | 2024 State NM and Eldorado WR/DB Jessie Wells.
Herrera was our Class 5A Defensive Player of the Year after totaling 164 tackles for the Trojans in 2023. He was twice named All-State and All-District and will graduate from Mayfield High this spring as one of the school’s best ever linebackers.
Herrera was offered by NMHU in early December and took his official visit there recently. He also attracted interest from the University of Puget Sound and Knox College, but chose to stay closer to home.
“Coach (Rod) Hudson really made me feel at home,” Herrera said. “The staff is young and energetic. They bring a lot of energy. I have a lot of family in the Las Vegas/Mora area and I enjoy the colder climate and the mountains. I was also impressed by the easy accessibility to everything such as medical, dental and equipment, things like that.”
Wells had 57 receptions for 719 yards and 4 TD for the Eldorado offense while adding 9 tackles and 3 pass breakups on defense. He was recruited by NMHU as a slot receiver.
“I chose NMHU because I loved everything about the school and what they had to say,” Wells told Prep Redzone New Mexico. “I wanted to be a part of a program that pushed me academically and athletically. That was definitely a plus. It is very close to home and I never wanted to go too far. When I went on my visit, I was impressed by how open to questions the coaches were and how each and every one cares for their players. I had five different offers and NMHU was definitely the best fit for me.”
Speaking of Eldorado, 2024 offensive lineman Deejdrick Holloway-Herndon Deejdrick Holloway-Herndon 6'1" | 290 lbs | OL Eldorado | 2024 NM committed to NMMI over several other offers.
