We are still evaluating talent as the spring progresses, and are bound to find even more prospects to join this class.
What makes some of these new adds special? Let’s dive into some of the best prospects added.
A rising senior from Hattiesburg, Justin Foster Justin Foster 6'2" | 255 lbs | DL Hattiesburg | 2025 State MS is a premier defensive tackle joining the rankings for the first time. At 6’2″ 255, he has plenty of room left to grow and fill out, but dominates with his athleticism right now. Foster is a quick twitched big man that knows how to use his hands at the point of attack. He does a great job at ripping and stacking to get off opposing offensive linemen. This is the type of player that ought to draw some interest throughout the spring off of athleticism alone.
Totaling 10 sacks and 12 TFLs from the defensive end position this season, Gaylon Gayten Gaylon Gayten 6'6" | 225 lbs | DL Brookhaven | 2025 State MS is a big time new addition that will see his stock rise in due time. The 6’6″ edge rusher has all the tools to be an incredibly special player. Gayten has a rare speed and power combo that make him an overwhelming defensive lineman. He has good burst off the ball and uses his length well to create separation on the pass rush. Gayten is a big time hustle player who refuses to give up on the play, running sideline to sideline to chase ball carriers down. He currently holds an offer from Marshall, but expect this list to grow dramatically during 2024.
Another player with a high sack total in 2023, Grenada’s Jarques Perry Jarques Perry 6'2" | 225 lbs | DL Grenada | 2025 State MS totaled over 15 sacks this past season. The hybrid linebacker-defensive lineman has some seriously good film to check out. Perry is a rare player that has the versatility to both play in coverage and rush the passer on any given down. As a pass rusher, he has an explosive first step and bends really well off the edge. There is very little stiffness to his game, shown by how well he changes direction. Perry is naturally strong and uses his strength to create some huge hits on the opposing quarterback. Although he has yet to earn his first offer, give this guy some time and he will be on many teams’ boards.
Playing both offensive and defensive line, Wesson’s Korbin Ashmore Korbin Ashmore 6'5" | 270 lbs | DL Wesson | 2025 State MS has some great versatility to him as well. Standing at 6’4″ 270, Ashmore has great frame for the defensive tackle position. Watching his 2023 tape, it is evident that he is a powerful human being capable of moving most guys around with ease. Ashmore is a very effective run defender who does a great job slanting both inside and out and playing with good pad level. He is consistently the lowest man to win and does an impressive job at using his hands to free himself up. As a pass rusher, Ashmore has a dependable bull rush move, but also shows good bend for his size. He recently earned his first offer from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, but expect the floodgates to open from there.
A multi-sport athlete filled with potential, North Pike’s Al’Javion Wells Al’Javion Wells 6'0" | 275 lbs | DL North Pike | 2025 State MS is an exciting prospect to keep an eye on this spring. The 6’2″ 240 edge rusher had a ton of flashes of greatness in 2023. Wells has a quick first step off the ball and shows the ability to run in space with the best of them. Wells has the versatility to line up across a front and does a great job at using his hands and length to create separation. He has a violent first punch that delivers some serious shock to opposing offensive linemen. When rushing the passer, Wells bends well for his size and does a great job in pursuit.
Checking into the rankings after his first team all-state level season, Water Valley’s Donalvin Wilson Donalvin Wilson 6'4" | 240 lbs | DL Water Valley | 2025 State MS is a massive presence on the interior. Wilson is a tenacious run defender who shows the ability to play all 3 downs. Wilson plays with solid pad level, but what stands out most about his game is his relentless motor. This is the type of player that will not quit on a play, regardless of score, down, distance, etc. Wilson runs well sideline to sideline and has some value as a pass rusher as well, boasting over 10 sacks on the season. Wherever the ball is, Wilson finds himself as well. Disruptive playmaker waiting on his first next level opportunity.
