Palm Beach All-Stars Prevail

JUPITER – Some who follow post season high school football all-star games feel that many are boring and provide little in the way of excitement. They weren’t at Jupiter High School on Saturday night.
From the opening kickoff of the “Battle At The Beach” – when Sebastian River’s Marcus Grier took it back for a score – to the scoring pass from Luke Douglas from the host school Jupiter to Dallas Desouza (West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman), this was quite a way to put an end to a number of seniors from the Treasure Coast and Palm Beach County.
While many schools and senior prospects seem to ignore these vital exposure events, over 70 players from the region took advantage of what this game had to offer.
As Royal Palm Beach head coach Chuck Kenyon and his staff came out on top over Stuart South Fork head coach Antwan Blatch and his impressive group of assistant coaches, this night belonged to the players, who have worked hard in and out of the classroom since youth football.
What this game and all post season all-star contests are about are getting these players so valuable exposure, via video or live as coaches from NAIA national champion Keiser University were on hand to watch.
“It boggles my mind why our regional coaches don’t take part in something like this that helps the student/athletes gain the exposure needed to get to the next level,” explained longtime football coach and game organizer Brian Coe. “You would think that every player from Palm Beach, Martin, Okeechobee and Indian River Counties would take part, but it didn’t happen like that.”
For those who did take part, it was a four-quarter cool night in northern Palm Beach County that fans, fellow coaches and players enjoyed, taking memories with them.
As Boynton Beach standout running back/linebacker Bobby Smith took home and Desouza took home 561 MVP honors in the 17-13 win, there were no losers on this night.
Among other Palm Beach prospects that stood out included Emerson Dort (WR/DB, Royal Palm Beach), Derrick Williams (RB/WR, Lantana Santaluces), Reggie Workman (WR/FS, West Palm Beach The King’s Academy), Britton Holmes (WR, Palm Beach Central) and Elijah Rodriguez (Athlete, Lantana Santaluces).
The Treasure Coast also had some impressive performers – such as Jonas Barros (LB, Stuart South Fork), Tim Smith (RB, Port St. Lucie Centennial), Ni’Marion Bryant (QB, Okeechobee), Devyn Ingle (DE, Fort Pierce Central), Luke Warnock (QB, West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman) and Jemar Paul (WR, Fort Pierce Central).
