While most of Louisiana’s top-ranked prospects signed in December, the state still has a long list of potential Division-I athletes still working to determine college homes.
Here are most than a dozen of the most notable remaining unsigned and uncommitted prospects on the defensive side of the ball.
Jayden Scott Jayden Scott 6'4" | 240 lbs | DL Archbishop Shaw | 2024 State LA — 6-4, 240 DL — Archbishop Shaw
The one-time Tulane commitment is the highest-ranked prospect on Prep Redzone Louisiana’s preseason 2024 rankings still looking for a home. And with his recent offer from Kilgore Community College, he looks like he may be first going the JUCO route before determining his potential Division-I home.
Tony Burns Tony Burns 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB University Lab | 2024 State LA — 6-1, 180 DB — University Lab
The younger brother of LSU safety Major Burns has been a key piece of his Cubs’ defense since he was an underclassman and picked up a Grambling State offer at one point prior to his junior season, but is still looking for a home heading into signing day.
Ty Lee Ty Lee 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Lafayette Christian | 2024 State LA — 6-0, 180 DB — Lafayette Christian
The versatile defensive back has been a major leader on and off the field for his Knights’ team throughout his high school career as both a cornerback and a safety and garnered a few notable Group of Five and FCS offers at different points in that process, most recently from Grambling State in December.
Swazy Carheel Swazy Carheel 6'3" | 230 lbs | DL Many | 2024 State LA — 6-3, 230 DL — Many
The Tigers’ wrecking ball defensive end garnered Power Five offers during his recruitment, but has been quiet in the months since the end of senior season.
Maison Vorise Maison Vorise 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB Denham Springs | 2024 State LA — 5-11, 170 DB — Denham Springs
The Yellow Jackets’ corner has been one of the top handful or so of cornerback prospects in Louisiana’s 2024 class, but may be headed the JUCO route first with Hutchinson Community College as his most recent offer since the end of his senior season.
Luke Wisham Luke Wisham 6'2" | 170 lbs | ATH Zachary | 2024 State LA — 6-2, 170 DB/WR — Zachary
The Broncos’ standout had committed to Louisiana (Lafayette) this summer with most of his high school career to that point having been spent on the other side of the ball. But his recruitment saw an additional surge this fall as he showed his ability as a playmaking safety.
Amyrion Mingo Amyrion Mingo 5'11" | 170 lbs | ATH Alexandria | 2024 State LA — 5-11, 170 DB/WR — Alexandria
“MyMy” is one of two players who will be on both the offensive and defensive lists in this series as a viable Division-I receiver or safety — a smart, tough football player that has adapted to and excelled in roles on both sides of the ball during his career, depending on where the Trojans needed his impact more.
Jamaal Sapp Jamaal Sapp 6'3" | 205 lbs | LB Ponchatoula | 2024 State LA — 6-3, 215 DL/LB — Ponchatoula
One of the more underrated seniors in the class, Sapp wreaked havoc off the edge for his Green Wave defensive front with his strength and explosiveness. Pearl River Community College and Sul Ross (Texas) have extended two of his most recent offers.
Tasmin Showers Tasmin Showers 5'10" | 170 lbs | DB Mandeville | 2024 State LA — 5-10, 170 DB — Mandeville
The Skippers’ physical defensive back garnered some recruiting interest during his high school career from Mississippi State among others, but missed his senior season to injury. Showers has been back to work behind-the-scenes in recent weeks and working toward a late opportunity at a comeback story.
Kohen Rowbatham Kohen Rowbatham 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH St. Thomas Aquinas | 2024 State LA — 6-1, 180 ATH — St. Thomas Aquinas
The explosive multisport athlete has been a top-100 prospect in Prep Redzone Louisiana’s 2024 rankings throughout his high school career, but is more likely to play basketball at the next level.
Alonzo Jackson Jr. Alonzo Jackson Jr. 6'1" | 210 lbs | LB Haynesville | 2024 State LA — 6-1, 210 LB — Haynesville
Nearby Louisiana Tech and Grambling State have been the most prominent programs involved in the recruitment for the Golden Tornado’s standout, who excelled on both sides of the ball for his team during its state championship game run this fall.
Erick Franklin Jr. Erick Franklin Jr. 5'11" | 165 lbs | DB Lake Charles College Prep | 2024 State LA — 5-11, 165 DB — Lake Charles College Prep
The son of coach Erick Franklin, who played his college ball at Louisiana Tech, has been a leader for his Blazers’ defense since he was an underclassman as a safety as comfortable jumping interceptions on the back end as crashing down into the box to help in run support. The younger Franklin committed at one point to Stephen F. Austin before reopening his recruitment.
Keidrick Richardson Keidrick Richardson 5'11" | 220 lbs | LB De La Salle | 2024 State LA — 5-11, 220 LB — De La Salle
“Paw Paw” was an LSU target early in his high school career before seeing his recruiting process cool despite his production — including multiple all-state selections. Richardson announced his commitment last January to Campbell, but did not sign in December.
Shavez Morris Shavez Morris 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Edna Karr | 2024 State LA — 6-0, 180 DB — Edna Karr
The Cougars’ nickel was among the other talented prospects in Louisiana’s 2024 class largely underrated during his high school career. Mississippi Valley State extended his first offer last May and Texas College his most recent in November.
Hezekiah Dantzler Hezekiah Dantzler 5'11" | 160 lbs | ATH Madison Prep | 2024 State LA — 5-11, 160 ATH — Madison Prep
Dantzler joins the aforementioned Mingo as the two players featured on both lists after standing out as both a receiver and safety during his high school career. The multisport athlete has also been a high-level student with offers from Cornell in May and Navy in October among his most recent.
