These players have garnered attention from college scouts and are expected to make a significant impact at the collegiate level and beyond. Here are some defensive studs to keep an eye on.
As I noted, Reynolds is no stranger to taking down the ball carrier. He seems to be part of every tackle when watching film. He is a sound tackler and engages the ball carrier with aggression and strength. Reynolds wraps up and doesn’t rely on his force to bring the ball carrier down. College coaches will not have to coach him up here at all.
Highlights
Jeremiah Atkins
Jeremiah Atkins
I’m not going to say he is the next Ronnie Lott, but it’s safe to say Atkins is a sure tackler. He does a good job wrapping up with his arms and taking the ball carrier to the ground. On film, I rarely see him miss a tackle or have bad form. A lot of safeties tend to tuck their head and kinda toss themselves at the ball carrier. Atkins doesn’t have that issue.
You may be thinking that Britt has value as an immovable object on the defensive line, but he’s surprisingly athletic. His feet are quick. He uses his arms well to disengage from blocks and make a play, either on the quarterback or running back. Britt also gets low, impressively low for a man as huge as he is. His size and speed combination is scary. I can only imagine what it’s like to see someone his size barrelling down on you much faster than you figured. His get off is impressive, especially considering his gigantic size.
Aquavious Marbury
Aquavious Marbury
What really stands out about Marbury is his ability to high point the ball. He’s comfortable with the ball in the air. Marbury isn’t going to panic when a pass comes his way. Finally, he shows excellent body control. He can conort his body in order to swat, or catch a ball.
King has elite bend when rushing the passer. He gets nice and low while maintaining his elite speed and quickness. King showed off his ankle and hip flexibility on numerous plays. This allows him to keep those tall offensive lineman’s hands off of his upper body. It’s not surprising, as King was very successful at a smaller size. His high level bend is one of the most appealing traits he will bring to the next level.
