There are always plenty of high level WRs in the the state of MD and to make sure I include as many deserving names as possible I have broken it into two separate articles. I will be looking at both X or outside receivers as well as your slot/quick twitch guys. Some of the players talked about could be players at both outside & insides WR spots at the next level as well. Again these are players who are still a bit under the radar and could boost themselves even more this offseason.
I have watched Kendall live multiple times over the last year, at camps, practice & workouts. He is a high level do it all WR. All of 6’0″ and has 9″ hands with 75 1/2″ wingspan and he recorded a 4.46 handheld 40 and 4.2 shuttle time this past summer. Kendall possesses good acceleration off the LOS and good long speed with a very smooth quick stride. Shows some good twitch and wiggle to be able to create separation and his own space. Strong route runner, can stick his foot in the ground, sink his hips and break with burst. One of his best features is his ball skills and body control when catching the ball. A strong leaper, Kendall will go up and high point it, snatch it out of the air and catches the ball away from his body consistently. He has the ability to take a slant/hitch, make a defender miss and house it while also being a strong deep ball threat. Kendall is a versatile WR and is also a strong blocker for the position. He holds 1 BCS offers right now and I see many more coming his way this summer.
Alex is a player who I’d say is a true under rated recruit right now. Missed a chunk of the season with some injuries and that could be partly while he hasn’t popped on everyone’s radar yet, but I see him having a strong off season. He plays bigger than his size, may be listed at 160lbs but he is yoked up with long arms. Is effective in all 3 levels of the passing game, can play outside or in the slot. Quick footed, he can make strong adjustments to his routes in tight spaces to create space for himself and get away from the defender. I really like how he shows the ability to find the holes in the D and put himself into empty spaces for easy completions. Alex is also a track kid with good speed, deep ball threat and effective in the screen game. A high academic prospect with a 4.3 GPA and NHS member, Alex will be an attractive recruit for plenty of schools.

Justin De’Vaughn
Justin De’Vaughn
Justin had a huge Jr. season helping Mervo to a state championship victory. He does currently hold 3 Offers and I expect that number to go way up this offseason. Justin is a high level athlete in both football and track. His track times are some of the best in the nation for his class, with a 13.95 110mH & 7.56 55mH and also competes in the HJ/ LJ. That speed, athleticism, and leaping ability translates to the field as Justin is capable of going up and will practically hang in the air to grab the ball. Is always a threat to take it deep or catch it short and use his speed and explosiveness to make a big play. A smooth route runner, h will stem his routes, and has the quick feet/cutting ability to create space. A natural pass catcher with soft hands and a great catch radius. Good size /frame kid as well, will fill out with good muscle no problem. Justin is not just a track star, he is a baller on the field and high character, personable kid off it. Can’t wait to see him continue to develop this summer and into his Sr. season.
I saw DeMatha a good few times this year and it took me while to figure out who the one WR was that was always making clutch catches for the Stags….and that WR was Vincent. All he does is make big plays. Can line up out wide, in the slot, put in motion and is effective in all 3 levels of the passing game. He is an impactful, versatile, reliable do it all receiver. Can get up the seam and stretch the field vertically while also going across the middle and making the tough catch. Another thing I noticed in all the times I saw Vincent this past season is how good his hands are. A natural pass catcher with strong hands, you throw it his way and he gets his hands on it…it’s a completion. A strong route runner, knows how to find space and comes back to the ball. Vincent will show well in camps this summer and should get on plenty of college coaches radar.

Tristan balled out this past season earning 1st team all-league at both WR and KR. He is dynamic with the ball in his hands both as a returner and after the catch. Shows great explosiveness and break away speed once he gets going. Tristan possesses quick feet paired with good wiggle and loose hips. A good frame player, will pack on the muscle. He lines up mainly out wide but I think he will be best suited in the slot at the next level with burst and quickness. Will be one to see show out this summer, he will do well in 1v1’s for sure.
Julius Dorsey
Julius Dorsey
In a team full of talented skill athletes, Julius is not one to over look. He is all of 6’3″ with a long lean frame and a smooth stride. While he may be a bigger receiver he shows some twitch and wiggle as well. Has fluid hips, and can stick his foot in the ground and make a move on the defender. His size allows him to be a great red zone threat, he has demonstrated multiple times the ability to rise up over the defender and snatch the ball at its highest point. As stated earlier he is a smooth runner, can get down the field effortlessly, effective after the catch and clutch over the middle. Think Julius will turn some heads and garner lots of looks from colleges as he also holds a 4.2 GPA. Love to see that and not too much more you can ask for from a prospect…size, production and grades!
