Between the early signing period and the regular period for this year’s signing class, a few more offers were doled out to current juniors, and some even made significant headway. A year from next week, many of his fellow players from the Grand Strand & Pee Dee may just have joined him by making their college plans known.
Here are some we believe will present themselves with those opportunities.
Zion Gilbert Zion Gilbert 6'0" | 195 lbs | RB South Florence | 2025 State SC RB, South Florence
While Gibert’s teammates ( Jayden Sellers Jayden Sellers 5'11" | 160 lbs | WR South Florence | 2025 State SC and Adams) have already committed, Gilbert might just be the next big piece of the recruiting puzzle. At 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, Gilbert (pictured) has Division-I size and a huge upside. And while he’s not a blazer, necessarily, he did clock as high as 21.5 miles per hour during the Joanne Langfitt Challenge in December. It was a nice personal addition after he 1,535 yards and 13 touchdowns while averaging 8.4 yards per carry in the fall.
Da’Marion Coe Da’Marion Coe 5'9" | 175 lbs | DB Hartsville | 2025 State SC DB, Hartsville
Coe’s 118 total tackles were a bit of an anomaly, given that Hartsville had several injury situations that forced him to play up much of the year. Still, what it did was show a toughness in the 5-foot-9, 170-pound safety that maybe hadn’t be exhibited when he was playing more of a center field role. Coe is a blazer, having reached a high point of 22.4 at Langfitt. He may get some other opportunities to stand out in new ways next year, too, as his durability has now been proven and Hartsville will have some other positions of need in all three phases.
John Simmons John Simmons 6'3" | 200 lbs | WR Myrtle Beach | 2025 State SC WR, Myrtle Beach
After starting as a freshman and picking up some significant interest, Simmons saw his sophomore season and part of his junior campaign tripped up by issues with Myrtle Beach finding and then developing a healthy quarterback. Enter Gibson Goodroe Gibson Goodroe 5'10" | 170 lbs | QB Myrtle Beach | 2025 State SC , who started to take hold in late September. His favorite target was none other than Simmons. While the big receiver caught only 20 passes, he averaged 26.9 yards per catch and turned half of those receptions into touchdowns. Think that might be attractive to a college program?
Jackson Garstka Jackson Garstka 5'10" | 135 lbs | K Atlantic Collegiate | 2025 State SC K/P, Atlantic Collegiate
Garstka didn’t exactly fall off the map after his transfer to the first-year charter school. Although, it did prevent him from getting more in-game exposure. Now, with Atlantic getting full-bore SCHSL status, Garstka becomes maybe the most reliable weapon for the start-up program’s first year eligible for the playoffs. He’s four-of-seven in field goals between North Myrtle Beach and Atlantic and is 18-of-19 on PATs. With him also handling punting duties, he’ll get his chances to prove himself in a hurry.
Jamarcus Williams Jamarcus Williams 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB Hannah-Pamplico | 2025 State SC RB, Hannah-Pamplico
Williams finished with 2,006 rushing yards in 2022, and he appeared to be on pace to top that after the first two games of 2023 – when he had rushed for 309 yards (against McBee) and 169 (North Central). However, he was ruled out for the year with a knee injury and opted for an early surgery to start preparing for what has also been a standout baseball career. There’s no reason Williams can’t return to the gridiron at 100 percent, and when that happens, he’ll have every chance to weigh his prospects in both sports.
DJ Gause DJ Gause 6'1" | 220 lbs | DL North Myrtle Beach | 2025 State SC DL, North Myrtle Beach
In nine games last fall, Gause tallied 45 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and six sacks. That was all a positive, as such is the fact that he’s playing in Greg Hill’s system, one known to maximize players but also prepare them for a college scheme. It allows him to play even bigger than his 5-foot-11, 210-pound frame.
Antwain Jones Antwain Jones 6'2" | 225 lbs | LB Lake City | 2025 State SC LB, Lake City
Jones lost all of the 2023 season after he was part of the bus accident that injured he and four teammates and left coach Ronnie Baker hospitalized for an extended period of time. However, Just prior, Jones had exhibited some on-field prowess that had him looking like one of the strongest and most potent linebackers in the state. If Jones bursts back onto the scene given all that’s happened to him, the recruiters will be there in droves to speak to the 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker.
Web Barnes Web Barnes 5'11" | 215 lbs | LB Hartsville | 2025 State SC LB, Hartsville
We’ve seen a hunger out of Barnes even when we haven’t been able to see him produce on the field. He was never fully cleared to participate during the 2023 season after suffering an injury. However, he was never far from coach Jeff Calabrese’s side and even showed up to Langfitt just to remind himself what he’d been working toward (he was selected for the event but was a medical scratch). Barnes had 101 total tackles as a sophomore. And now that he’s been cleared and is a full participant in the offseason program, we expect nothing less from his senior season.
Daniel Ray Daniel Ray 6'5" | 215 lbs | ATH Lake View | 2025 State SC TE/DE, Lake View
Ray is in rare territory with his 6-foot-5, 215-pound frame, and it stands out even more playing at the Class A level. After transitioning from across the state line, Ray became a nice addition to the Wild Gators staff and then settled into the defensive spot after previously playing more of a traditional outside linebacker spot. He’s quick off the snap and has long arms capable to making up for a straight speed differential against quarterbacks and tailbacks coming out of the backfield.
Ashton Keith Ashton Keith 5'10" | 215 lbs | LB Myrtle Beach | 2025 State SC LB/DL, Myrtle Beach
Ultimately, Keith’s college prospects are probably going to take him back toward the middle of the defense after previously shifting up toward the line in the Myrtle Beach defense. There, he put up 54 total tackles and 13 tackles for loss while also contributing three sacks and an interception. He’s got a knack for being in the right place at the right time, and his flexibility in the front seven means he’s going to add value to someone’s defense at the next level.
