To continue the series, here’s my list of some explosive under the radar 2024 wide receivers in Kentucky that made their presence known this past season.
rnAt the top of my list of notable performers is Matteo Matteoli Matteo Matteoli 6’0″ | 175 lbs | WR Highlands | 2024 State KY , a wide receiver at Highlands High School. In addition to outstanding breakaway speed, what impresses me about Matteoli is his ability to create seperation in the backfield and consistently get open for the deep pass. Another aspect of Matteoli’s playstyle that stands out is his ability to get in position for the short pass off the snap, proving he can push the offense into the backfield with his physical edge and ability to shake tackles.

rnI am additionally impressed with Harrison Simpson Harrison Simpson 5’9″ | 155 lbs | WR Paul Laurence Dunbar | 2024 State KY , a wide receiver at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. Simpson made a considerable difference down the stretch last season, showcasing his ability to blast past the defense in the backfield and get wide open for the deep pass. I also like Simpson’s quick execution and ability to push the offense into enemy territory from along the edge, showing off his ability to barrel past the defense with limited space.

rnClaiming the number three spot on my list is Brody Buck Brody Buck 6’3″ | 175 lbs | WR Floyd Central | 2024 KY , a wide receiver at Floyd Central High School. What makes Buck so dangerous down the stretch is his ability to overwhelm the defense in coverage with his physicality as well as his catching ability in the endzone. Another facet of Buck’s playstyle that impresses is his ability to get in position for the pass from along the edge, proving his quick execution off the snap as well as his ability to be wide open in crucial moments.

rnAnother skilled prospect is Jeb Wilkerson Jeb Wilkerson WR Pikeville | 2024 KY , a wide receiver at Pikeville High School. In addition to excellent versatility, what stands out about Wilkerson is his size, speed and ability to run right through the defense after the catch. I also like how Wilkerson can push off the defense and quickly turn around to get open when his quarterback is under pressure. Wilkerson’s ability to pick up speed down the stretch and from along the edge as well as his ability to utilize strong footwork and movement to constantly be open for the long pass also made a big difference this past year.

rnComing in at number five on my list is A.J. Hines A.J. Hines 6’1″ | 170 lbs | WR Louisville DuPont Manual | 2024 KY , a wide receiver at Louisville DuPont Manual High School. Hines impresses me due to his catching ability and durable edge, proving he can quickly haul in the short pass and stay on his feet in the pocket. I also like how Hines moves around in the backfield and attacks the ball in the air, utilizing bursts of speed to quickly overwhelm the defense in coverage and get in prime position for the touchdown pass.

rnAlso worth mentioning is Isaac Bowman Isaac Bowman 5’9″ | 170 lbs | WR Oldham County | 2024 KY , a wide receiver at Oldham County High School. In addition to electric speed and durability under pressure, what stands out most about Bowman is his footwork and versatility, showcasing his ability to dodge and weave the defense as he marches into the endzone. I also like Bowman’s ability to pick up speed off the snap to break free from the defense in coverage, get open for the short pass and consistently push the offense into prime scoring position.
