Continue ReadingJersey’s own Fran Brown was announced as Syracuse University’s new head football coach on December 4, 2023, replacing Dino Babers in the process. The Camden native most recently served as a defensive coach for the University of Georgia; where as prior to that he had on-field roles for Rutgers, Temple, and Baylor. Prior to coaching the Camden native was a student-athlete at Western Carolina University. This translated to Brown playing two years in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Brown has long time been considered an ace recruiter. This informal title has culminated with other media outlets naming Brown the #1 recruiter for the 2024 recruiting cycle for the Georgia Bulldogs.
How has Brown’s recruited prowess impacted his home Garden State? How long has it taken for “The Fran Brown Effect” to reach Jersey? Dramatic and immediate. Not even 10 days into his new job, find out which top recruits from New Jersey have recently de-committed and flipped in order to join Brown’s inaugural recruiting class at Syracuse.
Prior to Brown’s hire Hornsby, a talented receiving target out of Winslow, had pledged to the SEC’s Texas A&M Aggies. Not any more. Rather than playing in a stacked SEC that will add Oklahoma and Texas next year, Hornsby will look to create a dynasty out of the ACC in Syracuse. Per my research Hornsby was just the first commit to succumb to The Fran Brown Effect.
One of the state’s top running backs in the class of 2024 will follow another former top running back from Jersey (Millville alumnus LeQuint Allen) to upstate New York. Yasin Willis Yasin Willis 6’1″ | 200 lbs | RB St. Joseph’s | 2024 State NJ made a sudden u-turn on his way to Pitt and is now headed to ‘Cuse. This is a big loss for the Panthers, as they must obviously fill a hole in their recruiting board, but lose a talent player to a conference rival. The Fran Brown Effect strikes again.
The Irvington product, Lesaine, will be trading his blue jersey for an orange one – Syracuse Orange to be specific. The edge player from Essex County will be take the Parkway to I-280 to I-80 to I-81, as the talented defender is another one who just could not resist the Fran Brown Effect. Lesaine had previously committed to play for Kent State.
The Fran Brown Effect has reached New Jersey’s class of 2025 as well. The human-highlight reel from Atlantic City known as Sah’Nye Degraffenreidt received an offer from the recruiting machine as well. Still uncommitted, Degraffenreidt registered his 15th scholarship offer when Syracuse extended a scholarship his way. Interestingly enough Brown’s last employer, the Georgia Bulldogs, offered Degraffenreidt the same day.
