Monmouth University saw a lot of action locally. We will start there.
After having long-committed to Holy Cross some time ago, one of Jersey’s top defenders – who happened to go out as a state champion – changed his mind and is staying closer to home. With Head Coach Bob Chesney moving on for a different job, Mainland’s Hunter Watson Hunter Watson 6’0″ | 165 lbs | ATH St. Peters | 2026 State NJ rescinded his commitment to Holy Cross. Watson will spend the next several years fighting offensive linemen during the season and Benny’s during the summer as he has committed to Monmouth.
One of the Big Central Conference’s – if not the state’s – most dynamic offensive talents is headed down the shore. Catching the Parkway South from Route 1 & 9 will be Jaeden Jones Jaeden Jones 5’11” | 190 lbs | DB Colonia | 2024 State NJ . The Colonia product will now be a Hawk. By all indication it appears that the plan is for Jones to play defensive back at Monmouth.

A Pennsauken product, Elijah Jennings Elijah Jennings 5’8″ | 160 lbs | ATH Pennsauken | 2024 State NJ figures to continue to be an offensive threat at the collegiate level. Jennings will be the back of the future in Long Branch, as he will be one of the Hawk’s backs for days for Monmouth starting next season.
In is perhaps the most surprising commitments of the day in my opinion, one of Jersey’s final top prospects announced his commitment. Coming off of a turnaround season at Camden, William Love William Love 6’1″ | 190 lbs | DB Camden Eastside | 2024 State NJ certainly had his pick of the litter to determine where he shall continue is career. Turns out he is staying home and local. Love will be leaving one body of water – the Delaware River – and cut across the state to another body of water – the Atlantic Ocean – as he is signed, sealed, and delivered to the Monmouth University Hawks. Given how highly acclaimed Love was as a prospect, this is an enormous get for Monmouth.
Joining future teammate Jaeden Jones Jaeden Jones 5’11” | 190 lbs | DB Colonia | 2024 State NJ in the defensive backfield for Monmouth will be Anthony Brown Anthony Brown 5’11” | 165 lbs | WR Immaculata | 2024 NJ . An Immaculata graduate by way of New Brunswick – AKA the Hub City – Brown will look to continue to continue to be tough on the run and can now, literally, call himself a ball Hawk.
Another man of his word, Lamont Lester Lamont Lester 6’2″ | 240 lbs | LB Don Bosco | 2024 State NJ has honored his commitment and is staying in-state. Although this in-state trek is probably over an hour, Lester will be traveling from Bergen County all the way down to Monmouth County as he will change colors from an Ironman to a Hawk. The Don Bosco Prep prospect has committed to Monmouth University.

A little bit of a blast from the past with this one, Gerald Baker III, a mountain of a Minuteman out of Elizabeth, actually took the Prep School route in order to end up playing Division-I football. After spending a semester at East Coast Prep, Baker has committed to a school who has been hot on him since 2023. Today Baker announced that he is “1000% Committed” to the University of Maine and will now be a Black Bear.
