While program such as Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas and Miami Central have dominated, what head coach Dameon Jones and the Lions have accomplished is frankly something that has never been done before in Florida.
When the new classifications were released late last week, trip No. 9 to the state finals is indeed a reality for a football program that is an endless loop of talent and tremendous coaching.
This is a team that was so impressive in the state championship game against unbeaten Clearwater Central Catholic, national media members and major college coaches believed that very few teams would have been able to stay on the field with this program, which has been in the national spotlight for much of the past decade.
The 56-0 win was only an addition to a program that has been 80-13 since 2015, and with this year’s No. 2 national finish, has given them a top 20 national finish in each of the past six year!
As they face the 2024 season, the Lions are in a rebuilding mode – with a number of impressive football talent moving on to the next level, including the No. 1 player in the country, Jeremiah Smith Jeremiah Smith 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna | 2024 State FL , who is headed to Ohio State.
Even with six players going to Power 5 programs and another seven following to the next level, this is a team that already has the wheels in motion – potentially adding several top players.
But with that in mind, there are some returning prospects that you may want to keep an eye on as well.
