The season is in the books! We have crowned our State Champions on Saturday, and the offseason is underway. With athletes heading to the offseason, and getting ready for the next season, we turn to the seniors. There are many talented athletes that are still deciding their next level home. There is no better time that now to make sure the best of the best are on your boards, so let’s take a look at 4 of the best uncommitted seniors now that the season is over.
One of the top ATHs still on the market is Peoria’s Gary Rutherford Gary Rutherford 6’3″ | 200 lbs | ATH Peoria | 2024 State IL . The 6’3″ 200 lbs senior makes his biggest mark, and looks his best, at safety. Rutherford looks like a legitimate three level safety. You can play him deep, let him read the QB, and close on the catch point. He has the ball skills to generate turnovers also. You can also rely on the big DB to slide down into the box and be an extra LB essentially. The strength is there to get off blocks, he has good burst to jump short routes or fly through gaps, and is a sound tackler. Lastly, the senior can be used in man coverage over a TE with his size, athleticism, and strength. Gary is a need to know prospect.
Coming into the season, I was very excited for Kaden’s potential blowup on the recruiting scene. That is what we saw. The dominant tape has the big OL earning PWOs from the FBS level among other offers. The tape is so fun to watch. Kaden is a massive man, with equal power to match. His first punch is devastating, like a heavyweight boxer. The power Garland is able to play with is special. He tosses DL around, drives them off the ball and where he wants them. Plus the big man has nimble feet to be able to stay out at OT at the next level if needed. Either way, Kaden has the size, and power to dominate the trenches and set the tone. Kaden is a steal at this point in the recruiting process.
Filip Rolek Filip Rolek 6’3″ | 230 lbs | DL Palatine | 2024 State IL is looking like a steal in the Class of 2024! The DE is an impressive athlete. He has the balance and body control to use spins or counter moves while rushing the passer. Filip can change his rush path quickly without having to gather himself. Rolek’s strength on the edge is a mismatch for TEs, and he can take on OTs while holding the edge. The senior uses his hands very effectively to create separation and use pass rush moves. Filip also has the range to create havoc once he gets penetration. Don’t sleep on the DL.
Teams in the market for a kicker need to get their eyes on the leg of Naperville Central’s Logan Ellison Logan Ellison 6’0″ | 195 lbs | K Naperville Central | 2024 State IL . The senior handles kickoff, punt, and field goal/extra point duties. Easy to see why he handles it all. The ball explodes off of his foot as he drives through the ball. He has a quick, efficient approach and is able to generate a lot of force behind his foot. He can punch the ball out of the back of the endzone on kickoffs, and the range/accuracy combo on field goal attempts. Give the senior a look.
