Continue ReadingAfter the second round of high school football playoff action in the Volunteer State, it’s time to highlight some of the most impactful standouts that have made their presence known on the field in this past week’s slate of competitive matchups. These prospects took their game to another level last week and have established themselves as top tier playmakers.
rnAt the top of my list of notable performers is Brooklen Davis Brooklen Davis 5’10” | 190 lbs | RB MBA | 2025 State TN , a running back at Montgomery Bell Academy. Davis and the Big Red are coming off a close 17-14 victory over Ensworth last week. Davis stands out due to his size and breakaway speed, showing off his ability to barrel through defenders and find openings in the pocket to take it all the way to the house. Another aspect of Davis that impresses is his footwork and durable edge, proving he can quickly juke out the defense, withstand tackles in the redzone and stay on his feet under pressure.

rnI am additionally impressed with Silas Teat Silas Teat 6’0″ | 190 lbs | QB Marshall Co. | 2024 State TN , a quarterback at Marshall County High School. Teat and the Tigers picked up a 45-23 win over Hardin County this past week. What impresses me the most about Teat is his ability to remain composed and get the ball out of his hands under pressure, slinging bullets into the hands of his receivers in the backfield. Teat also makes a difference with his unpredictable decison-making, ability to fake handoffs and his ability to quickly target his receivers in the endzone for touchdown passes. I also like how Teat can use his electric speed to maneuver the field, break tackles and scan the backfield for passing targets.

rnClaiming the number three spot on my list is Kaden Mowl Kaden Mowl 6’7″ | 310 lbs | OL Oakland | 2025 State TN , an offensive lineman at Oakland High School. Mowl and the Patriots came away with a 24-2 victory over Mount Juliet last week. In addition to outstanding size and physicality at the line, what makes Mowl so impressive is his ability to stun the defensive line with his strength and hold off the blitz. Another aspect of Mowl that makes him so efficient is his excellent balance and durability, proving he can both absorb heavy pressure, overwhelm the defensive line with his toughness and protect his quarterback.

rnAnother skilled prospect to watch for is Amanuel Dickson Amanuel Dickson 6’0″ | 200 lbs | LB Greeneville | 2024 State TN , a linebacker at Greeneville High School. Dickson and the Greene Devils are coming off a 42-0 blowout win over Gibbs this past week. What makes Dickson so impactful defensively is his ability to read the offense, remain in a strong field position and utilize bursts of speed to catch the rush from along the edge. I also like how Dickson can maneuver the pocket and quickly adapt to be disruptive. Dickson can also capitalize defensively if given space, proving he can quickly stop the rush in the pocket as well as sack the quarterback.

rnComing in at number five on my list is Clayton Merrill Clayton Merrill 5’10” | 180 lbs | WR Brentwood | 2025 TN , a wide receiver at Brentwood High School. Merrill and the Bruins collected a 38-14 rout of Summit last week. Merrill makes a considerable difference down the stretch due to his quick execution off the snap and breakaway speed, showing off his ability to consistently create seperation in coverage and haul in crucial deep passes. I also like Merrill’s awareness and durable edge, proving he can shake tackles after the catch as he blasts into the endzone. Another aspect of Merrill’s playstyle that impresses is his ability to attack the ball in the air.

rnAnother prospect that made his presence known is Ladeadrick James, a defensive back at Houston High School. James and the Mustangs picked up a 40-7 blowout victory over Collierville this past week. What stands out the most about James is his ability to lock down receivers in the backfield, showcasing his relentless physicality in coverage as well as his ability to disrupt passing. James also impresses me with his awareness and catching ability, hauling in an impressive interception at the goal line for a solid return last week.
