We are down to the final four teams in all eight Classes in Illinois! This Saturday we are going to watch teams battle it out for a ticket to the State Championship game, and the slate is full of elite matchups. Today, I want to breakdown the tape of multiple athletes that will be playing this weekend, and need to be on the radars on college coaches. Let’s get started!
We have him listed at DB, but Andruw has been balling out at RB this season. The junior is utilized to attack the edges of defense and stretch the field horizontally. Andruw has next level speed to quickly get outside of the contain man. He has solid vision to find lanes, cut backs, or blocks to use. Ellis also provides a threat as a receiver out of the backfield with soft hands. Andruw is a talented, productive junior to watch.
Ethan is a very talented LB prospect in the Class of 2024. He offers inside/outside versatility. The recent tape shows him playing ILB, and coaches need to tune in. Ethan has a prototypical frame at 6’4″ 220 lbs, and it is packed with power and athleticism to man the middle of the front seven at the next level. Ethan is quick to read and process plays. His speed gives him sideline to sideline range and the closing speed ends with a huge hit. The big LB has effective lateral agility to make OL miss, and he can run through block attempts. Hogg has such a well rounded game to recruit.
Jack is an intriguing prospect to mold at the next level. He uses his hands and length consistently well. He keeps separation and himself clean of the OL’s hands. Jack will need time to fill out at the next level, but he already has a the ability to bull rush with his power, plus he uses leverage well. Trautmann also is able to win with speed, agility, and pass rush moves such as a swim move. Jack makes a lot of high motor plays too where he either chases down plays or fights through blocks. The senior is a DL to know.
Highlights
James is an OT prospect well worth the time to check out. He has a great frame to continue to grow and strengthen at 6’5″ 270 lbs. In pass protection, James has a strong anchor and heavy hands to quickly absorb bull rush attempts and shut them down. The senior has enough foot quickness to slide laterally to mirror counter moves too. In the run game, Barry uses his strength to wall off defenders and provide a secure running lane. He can pull and lead with solid range, and James is able to create a push in the trenches. Don’t sleep on the standout.
Highlights
Mick Ranquist
Mick Ranquist
The senior OG for Montini Catholic is an athlete for D3 programs to check out. He checks in at 6’2″ 265 lbs, and he has the nasty, aggressive mentality to finish blocks and set the tone. Mick has a solid burst out of his stance to close on the DL. Mick has solid strength and uses it to create a big in the run game and reset the line downfield. Ranquist can be used to pull as well. Mick is an effective run blocker who has the mean streak to set the tone in the trenches.
Tommy Davis
Tommy Davis
Normal Community’s Tommy Davis is putting together a fantastic senior campaign. The senior is a big play threat on every touch. Whether between the tackles or out in space off the edge. Davis has an explosive skill set. He has the agility to jump cut away from defenders, can juke them in tight quarters, and his low center of gravity and surprising power allow him to find success between the tackles. Tommy also has the speed to get around the edge and beat pursuit angles. The senior is also blessed with strong vision and instincts with the ball in his hands. He seems to always find the path of least resistance. Don’t overlook the big play back.
