Douglas County at Woodward Academy
After a thrilling 59-45 win over a tough Lee County team, the high-scoring Tigers will head into Atlanta to take on Woodward Academy for a place in the 6A state championship. The 13-0 Tigers are led by senior quarterback Sire Hardaway and his many talented weapons, including touchdown machine James Johnson James Johnson 6'0" | 175 lbs | WR Douglas County | 2025 State GA at wide receiver. The playmaking junior ran for 100 yards and three touchdowns during their big win over Lee County along with 55 receiving yards and another score. He’s quickly becoming one of the top 2025 wide receiver prospects in the South. While their defense did give up 45 points, they’ve been consistently dominant all season long, holding nine opponents this year to under 20 points. Offensively, they’ve scored at least 48 points in each of their last three games. They are playing well and looking for a state title this season.
Woodward Academy is an Atlanta program with as much overall talent as anyone in the area. They took down one of the 6A favorites last weekend in Gainesville, and now they’ll host the undefeated Tigers. Defensively, Woodward Academy has been one of the best teams in the state this year. Only four opponents have scored at least 10 or more points on them this season. They are loaded with talent, they play physical, and they know how to tackle. After losing two games early, the War Eagles have won 10 in a row and are playing their best football at the right time. Their defense will have a big challenge ahead of them as they take on a powerful Tigers offense, but there’s enough talent to get the job done if they play their best at home.
Marist at Thomas County Central
The Marist Eagles are one of the most successful programs in Georgia high school football history. All they do is win, and they have a chance to win it all again this season in 6A. After an early season loss to Gainesville, Marist has won 12 games in a row and have been playing their best football of late. They just beat an incredibly talented Roswell team by 27 points and have beat their last nine opponents by double digits. They are tough and physically sound defensively, and on offense, their run game is so tough to stop. They run through teams and make it look easy. They’ve reached the 40-point mark six times this year and appear to be clicking their best at the right time. They’re a complete team, but they have a massive test on the road now against one of the very best teams in Georgia.
Thomas County Central is on a mission this season. The last remaining South Georgia team standing in 6A, the Yellow Jackets are having a special season and have only one thing in mind. To bring a 6A state championship to Thomasville. With a win over Marist, they;ll just be one more win of reaching their goals. At 13-0, the Jackets have rolled through teams left and right this year and are coming off a giant 19-16 win over the Rome Wolves on the road. This was only the second time all season where they didn’t win by double-digits. They do have some talent, but that’s not the biggest reason why they are still undefeated. This is a tough, physical, well-coached team that does their job. This is a group of competitors, and they’ve executed their game-plan week after week all season long. They’re playing extremely well, but getting past Marist won’t be easy.
