Here is the third of three scouting reports on prospects playing during Kansas Football Championship Weekend on November 25. Two of these games will be played in Newton, while Dodge City will host the six-man title game.
8-Man Division I @ Newton: Wichita County (12-0) vs Lyndon (12-0) – Way back in August it felt like a Lyndon/Wichita County state championship game was in the cards. These two teams are loaded for bear and will scratch and claw in order to finish with an undefeated season. Lyndon has shut out five opponents this season and their lowest-scoring game of the year was 38 points. The Tigers have scored more than 50 points in all four of their playoff victories. Wichita County, the defending state champs, has also scored more than 50 points in all four of its playoff wins. Hold down the hatches this could be a high-scoring affair with turnovers making the difference in the outcome.
Brandon Price, OL/DL, 5’11”, 230, Wichita County, ‘24
Price plays with solid balance and keeps a nice pad level. He will have a big task in the title game to try to move Lyndon’s big man Kaedin Massey Kaedin Massey 6'8" | 280 lbs | OL Lyndon | 2024 State KS around the field.
Kaedin Massey Kaedin Massey 6'8" | 280 lbs | OL Lyndon | 2024 State KS , DL/OL, 6’8”, 290, Lyndon, ‘24
The Kansas State commit is an all-out stud and should play a lot of football in Manhattan. The Wichita County player will have to find a way to beat him on offense and stop him on defense.
8-Man Division II @ Newton: South Central (9-3) vs Axtell (12-0) – Axtel has not allowed more than six points scored in any of its playoff games en route to the state title game in which the Eagles will attempt to win back-to-back titles. The Eagles have shut out four opponents and the only team to score more than eight points against Axtell all season was sub-state qualifier Cair Paravel who scored 44 points in a week one loss to Axtell. The Timberwolves started their season losing their first two games but will enter the state title game with a seven-game winning streak. South Central has scored between 42 and 62 points in each of those wins.
Gavin Uhl, LB, 6’0”, 190, South Central, ‘24
Uhl is the Timberwolves leading tackler with 103. He has 14 tackles for lost yardage and four quarterback sacks. He is also a playmaker for the South Central defense accounting for five interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
Eli Broxterman Eli Broxterman 6'0" | 170 lbs | ATH Axtell | 2025 State KS , RB/LB, 6’0”, 200, Axtell, ‘25
Broxterman is an exciting junior prospect to keep watch this weekend and next season. He is a strong runner and he wraps up well on defense. In the sub-state win over Frankfort he scored three touchdowns, two receiving and one on the ground. He also had eight and a half tackles in the win.
6-Man @ Dodge City: Cunningham (11-1) vs Bird City-Cheylin (12-0) – The Cougars look to finish the season undefeated and knock off the defending champion Wildcats who won the first-ever six-man title in 2022. Cunningham’s lone loss of the season came in week one against Ashland. The Wildcats then went on to shut out their next seven opponents outscoring them 449-0. Cheylin has shut out six teams this season and only given up more than eight points once.
Trent Schnittker, ATH, 6’0”, 260, Cunningham, ‘25
A big prospect to keep an eye on in this game is Cunningham’s Schnittker. He is a physical specimen and among the team’s top tacklers.
Logan McCarty, QB, 5’11”, 170, Cheylin, ‘24
McCarty is one of the most productive players in the 6-man game. Through 11 games he threw for 1,923 yards and 37 touchdowns. He has rushed for 930 yards and 17 touchdowns in the same number of games.
