Wilcox had one of those games every player dreams about on Friday night against the Silliman Institute. He led his Leake Academy Rebels to a 62-36 win, connecting on 20 completions on 33 attempts and nine touchdowns. That’s right, folks 9!! Wilcox, simply put, was unstoppable. His pocket presence and ball placement are the two main things that stood out to me. The sky is the limit for this young sophomore.
Jaeden Calender Jaeden Calender 6'1" | 225 lbs | DL Brandon | 2024 State MS | SR | LB | Brandon
Meridian had no answer for Calender last Friday night. e recorded 24 tackles, and of those 24 tackles, six of them were for a loss. e was also responsible for one sack on the night. n the Bulldogs’ 41-35 win over the Wildcats. Calender plays a very physical Linebacker position that wreaks havoc on a defense all night. When he is lined up in the middle, he reads his keys very well, but he stands out to me, coming off the edge on his pass rush. He has solid hands and unbelievable balance that help keep his opponent from getting a solid block on him.
Xavier Boler | SR |RB | Union
This is Boler’s first time to make this list. He had an impressive night last Friday in the Yellow Jackets 41-18 win over Philadelphia. He carried the ball 19 times for 197 yards and scored three touchdowns. Boler is a converted quarterback playing running back. His vision of the field is second to none. When he has the ball in his hands, he can take it to the house no matter where they are on the field.
B.J. Barnes | SR | WR | Pascagoula
Barnes had eight receptions for 156 yards and scored two touchdowns in Pascagoula’s 46-27 win over West Harrison last Friday night. He is a big-bodied receiver with solid hands and attacks the ball at its highest point in the air. That is what makes him difficult to defend for opposing defenses. He plays with a physicality, not many receivers play with. If Barnes can keep performing like he did last week, the Panthers will have a shot to make a deep run into the playoffs.
Mykel Allen | SR | RB | South Panola
Between the tackles, there might not be a better running back in Mississippi. Last Friday night against Olive Branch, Allen had 14 carries for 170 yards, along with two touchdowns in the Tiger’s 49-27 win. Watching Allen play is like watching a pinball master play. He can read the defense and see where his next move needs to be before the defense can adjust. Allen should have the chance to play at the next level.
