Only a few people get to experience state championship week, so everyone playing this week will surely enjoy the experience, but winning is their number one priority. Each team in every division deserves to be in this game, and they know it. They are not afraid of anyone or worried about being an underdog. These teams are confident and believe they are the best of the best. This week’s games will be thrilling; for this one, we will focus on the 5A state title game.
5A State Championship: #3 Mountain View (12-0) v. #1 Wilsonville (11-1)
Prediction: Wilsonville def. Mountain View 31-28.
Last week, the game between the undefeated Mountain View and Silverton teams proved that Mountain View is a better team than we initially thought. They won convincingly with a score of 42-19. This week, they will be facing the formidable Wilsonville squad, who only lost to 6A’s #2 Tualatin this season and is also competing for the 6A state title this week. Wilsonville is a phenomenal team with impressive talent, so this game will be exciting and close.
In my opinion, the winner of this game will be determined by the player’s performance in the trenches. Based on this, I believe Wilsonville’s big men are more reliable than Mountain View’s. This may make it difficult for Angel Valenzuela Angel Valenzuela 5'11" | 205 lbs | RB Mountain View | 2026 State OR , Mountain View’s talented sophomore player, to make an impact on the ground. The Wildcats’ quarterback, Kallen Gutridge Kallen Gutridge 6'4" | 195 lbs | QB Wilsonville | 2024 State OR , and other experienced upper-level students have played in state title games before, giving them an edge over Mountain View’s squad, who are experiencing this for the first time.
This game will be close, Mountain View will show others that they can compete with the powerhouse that is Wilsonville, and it should be a watch, but a winner will emerge, and I believe that the winner will be the Wilsonville Wildcats. Their experience, combined with their talent, is too tall of a task for this Mountain View team. Both teams have had great seasons and should be very proud, but there will be a winner and I am rolling with the team I have ranked #1 since the preseason. This will be a great game to send us to the offseason!
