The regular season has ended, and while some teams have had to turn in their gear and say goodbye to their seniors, there are still 16 teams in 5A that are eyeing the state championship. The bracket consists of 16 teams, and in this article, I will focus on the top half of the bracket. Expect another piece this week previewing the bottom half of the bracket.
#16 Crater (4-5) @ #1 Wilsonville (8-1)
Prediction: Wilsonville def. Crater 35-7.
Wilsonville earned the top seed in the playoffs, and in my opinion, it was the right decision. They worked hard to secure home-field advantage throughout the postseason, which will prove to be advantageous when they face tough teams like Crater. Crater has an impressive running game, and teams from Central Oregon are usually physical and provide tough competition. Although I expect Wilsonville to win, I wouldn’t be surprised if the game is closer than I predicted.

#9 Dallas (6-3) @ #8 Thurston (7-2)
Prediction: Thurston def. Dallas 28-21.
Thurston has performed impressively despite facing a tough early schedule. In my opinion, they deserve to be ranked higher, especially since they defeated #4 ranked Springfield earlier in the year. I believe that Thurston is a stronger team than the 8th seed suggests, and it seems unfair that Dallas drew them as an opponent. While I expect Thurston to win, given their superior talent, the playoffs are always unpredictable, and teams will be giving it their all.

#12 Canby (6-3) @ #5 Summit (5-4)
Prediction: Summit def. Canby 34-21.
Summit is a formidable team that shouldn’t be eliminated in the first round, but they are up against a very challenging Canby team. Although Summit are the reigning champions and have high expectations, they are not as talented as they were in the previous year, and I believe they might be vulnerable to an upset this time. Canby is a team that could potentially achieve that feat.

#13 Lebanon (5-4) @ #4 Springfield (8-1)
Prediction: Springfield def. Lebanon 23-21.
It seems like the upcoming game is going to be a closely contested one. Springfield is a remarkable team that possesses excellent physicality and a great running game. However, Lebanon also has some serious talent and physicality. Last week, Lebanon competed with the second-ranked team, Silverton, and they should be able to stay competitive with Springfield this week too. Although I am predicting Springfield to come out on top, I wouldn’t be surprised if Lebanon manages to sneak out a win.
