Continue ReadingThe Yellowjackets are definitely not the team to forget. They like to bite back hard. Last season, they had everybody fooled. People wrote them off after they lost two games back to back early during the season. Starkville won 6A last year. With the addition of 7A this season, they are looking to win again this year.
What I Assume
I think that Starkville is taking this time to get their defense together. It has been kind of rough on that side of the ball for them. They have the guys to make things rock and roll on that side. They have the guys to make this offense tough.
At this time of the year you need your best men on the field at all times. I think it is time for them to let Jay Stevenson Jay Stevenson 6'1" | 210 lbs | RB Starkville | 2024 State MS and Braylon Burnside Braylon Burnside 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH Starkville | 2024 State MS start getting a lot of more time on defense. Stevenson is a guy that has what it takes to apply pressure from the end. He can also line up and be a force at an inside linebacker position. Burnside is a guy that is a gamer. He knows what to do no matter where he is on the field. Burnside should be seeing more playing time at safety. I would also have Shiloh Johnson getting a few more reps. Johnson is a guy that likes to find the ball. That defense could be a lot better than what it has been. I expect to see them get better soon.
Fixing the offensive line
Starkville has been having some problems protecting the quarterback. It has been hard for them to find some guys to fill in some of the positions where they have players hurt. Not to mention losing a few of the senior studs they had last season.
Trey Petty Trey Petty 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Starkville | 2024 State MS could possibly see himself in more situations to be on the move throwing the ball. Courtland Cooper also needs to be ready to help protect his quarterback more. This is going to be crucial for them going forward.
Key Players Under The Radar
Courtland Cooper and Jay Turnipseed are two of their guys that can help continue to turn this team around for them on offense. Turnipseed is a guy that can open up the field for them. He is dangerous with the football in his hands.
Courtland Cooper is another dangerous player they have on their team. He is known for being a shifty guy in the trenches. I think it is crucial for them to make sure he gets the football.
