<p><strong>How It Happened:</strong> #1 Canadian and #2 Bushland protected their spots atop the MaxPreps Amarillo Region poll with convincing victories. Canadian scored twice in the first three minutes for a 14-0 lead, led 28-7 at halftime and cruised home to a 42-point victory over rival Childress in the district opener. Canadian amassed 606 yards in total offense: 332 rushing, 274 passing. WR Preston Neumeier had 14 receptions for 185 yards and 1 TD. QB Camren Cavalier totaled 385 yards. . .Bushland knocked Muleshoe from the unbeaten ranks by scoring two TD in the first quarter on two long catch-and-run plays and then scoring after a failed fake punt for a quick 21-0 lead. Bushland extended the lead to 49-12 at halftime and cruised home from there. . . #3 Stratford stayed unbeaten with a victory over Farwell as Bryce Braden had a spectacular all-around performance. . . #4 Amarillo had 311 yards in total offense but surrendered 49 points to Lubbock-Cooper in a loss to the Pirates. . . #5 Hereford (6-1) hammered Pampa by 31 points in the district opener as RB Brylyn Lopez ran for 2 TD and the Whitefaces amassed 543 yards in total offense. . .#6 Panhandle crushed Highland Park as the Panthers offense fired on all cylinders. . #8 Sunray blanked Lubbock Christian as QB Armando Lujan totaled 283 yards. . .#9 Tascosa snapped a 5-game losing streak with a district victory over Lubbock Monterey at Dick Bivins Stadium, rallying from a 14-0 deficit in the first quarter. The Rebels scored 33 unanswered points until Monterey scored on the final play of the game. . .#11 Randall scored two first quarter TDs and then held on for a low-scoring 1-point win over Dumas. </p>

Frenship amassed 632 yards in total offense but lost the game. . .#2 Lubbock-Cooper trounced Amarillo, scoring five TD on seven first-half possessions and never looking back in a 30-point win over the Sandies. . . #5 Trinity Christian improved to 5-1 with a win over Covenant Christian. . .#6 Seminole was outgained 435-313 in a loss to West Plains. . .Plainview fell short in a shootout with Abilene Wylie, returning a kickoff and converting the 2-point conversion with just over a minute left but the ensuing onsides kick was recovered by Wylie. . .#10 New Home stayed unbeaten with a lopsided win over Seagraves. . .#12 Littlefield walloped Coahoma, 55-21, with QB Chip Green amassing 372 total yards. <strong> </strong> </p>

The two teams combined for close to 1,200 total offensive yards . . .In a Thursday game, #2 Midland traveled to San Angelo Central and pounded the rock, as they always do, for 388 yards on 51 carries in an 18-point road win. The Bulldogs stayed unbeaten at 6-0. . .In another thriller at Ratliff Stadium, #3 Odessa scored in overtime to beat rival #5 Odessa Permian for the first time since 2013, continuing a season filled with close games and heart-stopping endings. Odessa RB <strong>Dae Dae Green</strong> won the game for the Bronchos with an eight-yard run in OT. . .#4 Monahans improved to 6-0 with the victory over Pecos. . .#7 Andrews rushed for a staggering 628 yards in its lopsided win over Lake View. . .#8 Fort Stockton and Clint combined for 88 rushing attempts (63 by Clint) in Fort Stockton's win. . .#9 Wink improved to 6-1 with the win over Iraan as freshman RB <strong>Kemyd Faciane</strong> rushed for 176 yards and 3 TD. . .#11 Forsan rushed for 269 yards on 45 carries in their win over Reagan County. </p>

<p><strong>Mikey Cota, Odessa</strong>: The junior QB threw for 404 yards and 5 TD, averaging 21.3 yards per completion, to lead Odessa past rival Odessa Permian at Ratliff Stadium. It was the second time this season Cota has passed for 400+ yards in a game.</p>

Both teams remain at the top of the new MaxPreps El Paso Region poll. . .#3 Pebble Hills wasn't expected to have much trouble with struggling Socorro and they didn't in a 37-point win. QB Gael Ochoa (UTEP commit) threw for 219 yards and 2 TD. . .#4 Montwood improved to 4-0 in the district with a convincing victory over #7 Eastlake by limiting the Falcons to 190 total offensive yards. Montwood had close to 375 yards. . .#5 Del Valle continued to pummel opponents offensively as they trounced Parkland 63-28. It marked the fifth time this season Del Valle has scored 53+ points. . .#6 Franklin (4-2) had a bye in Week 7. . .#8 Canutillo blanked Burges by limiting the Mustangs to 180 total yards. . .#9 EP Coronado snapped a five-game losing streak with a 12-point win over El Dorado.
