Warren took care of business in the opening round of the IHSA playoffs this past weekend. They took down Oswego 39 to 3 dominating most of the game. They will look to build off of what they did in the first round when they travel to South Elgin this Saturday. South Elgin also won in commanding fashion in their game taking down Lane Tech 55 to 6. They know they will have a much tougher opponent this week coming to town. South Elgin runs a very difficult offense to defend in the triple option attack. Defenses have to be discipline to their rules to slow down this type of offense. Warren will have to make the most of their offensive positions because South Elgin has the ability to dominate the time of position as well.
Key Players (Warren): 2024 RB Donovan Mcneal, 2024 WR Liam Wiley, 2024 DB Dajhir Gordon
Key Players (South Elgin): 2025 RB London Leflore, 2024 OL/DL Tommy Roath, 2024 OL/DL Jason Schmidt
Both these teams want to establish the run game, this looks to be a physical football game on Saturday. South Elgin runs their triple option attack very well and I have seen them give opposing defenses fits all year long. I like the Storm to win this game and go on to the next round. Prediction: South Elgin
Eisenhower at Kankakee
Eisenhower had their hands full in Week 1 put ended up pulling out the victory in double overtime over Dunlap. Eisenhower looked strong offensively in a shootout. If they want to to beat a talented Kankakee team this week they will have to tighten up on defense and finds ways to slow down their offense. Kankakee continues to impress as they won their first round game to keep their undefeated season going. They Kays are stacked with talent and have their eyes set on a deep in the playoffs in 2023.
Key Players (Eisenhower): 2025 WR/DB Andre Lovett Andre Lovett 6'2" | 170 lbs | DB Eisenhower | 2025 State IL , 2024 QB Nick Mayfield Nick Mayfield 6'1" | 185 lbs | QB Hillcrest | 2024 IL , 2024 DL Bryan Wilson Bryan Wilson 6'2" | 225 lbs | DL Eisenhower | 2024 State IL
Key Players (Kankakee): 2024 OL Marques Easley Marques Easley 6'6" | 330 lbs | OL Kankakee | 2024 State IL , 2024 RB Tony Phillips Tony Phillips 5'7" | 160 lbs | RB Kankakee | 2024 State IL , 2024 LB Kennarius Chandler Kennarius Chandler 6'3" | 210 lbs | LB Kankakee | 2024 State IL
Eisenhower has shown that they can compete with anyone this year. I think this should be a close game that might even come down to the wire but Kankakee just feels like they have too much talent this year. Prediction: Kankakee
St. Joseph-Ogden at Roxana
St. Joseph-Ogden will travel down to play Roxana on Saturday. They enter this game 8-2, beating Carlinville last week 38-15. Roxana has been a perfect 10-0 on the year with an impressive 50 to 22 win over Paris last week. Roxana has been able to lean on their key players to take over games. It’s been an impressive season for the Shells in 2023.
Key Players (Roxana): 2024 RB Evan Wells, 2025 WR/DB Andruw Ellis Andruw Ellis 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB Roxana | 2025 State IL , 2024 EDGE Nick Newton
Key Players (St. Joseph-Ogden): 2024 QB Logan Smith Logan Smith 5'11" | 165 lbs | QB St. Joseph-Ogden | 2024 IL , 2025 WR Coy Taylor, 2024 OL Braxton Waller
St Joseph will lean on Smith and Taylor to get some yards through the air for their offense. I think that will keep things close for awhile but Roxana just seems to talented this year to exit in round 2. Prediction: Roxana
