A major matchup with huge implications on Region 3-7A. Expect offense galore with stars on both sides of the field in Oak Grove’s Landon Varnes Landon Varnes 5'11" | 170 lbs | QB Brandon | 2024 State MS and Nate Blount as well as Brandon’s A.J. Maddox and P.J. Woodland. This very well could be the best QB battle of Week 8. The Warrior defense started out the year extremely stout but has been more suspect of late giving up 35 points plus in two of the last three weeks. Can Brandon keep up the trend?
Vicksburg (4-2) @ Warren Central (4-2)
All the eyes in Warren County will be focused here on this Region 2-6A battle come Friday night. Can the Gators pick up a road victory after dropping a decision to Neshoba Central last week? Both teams hang their hats on the defensive side of the ball. Don’t expect an offensive shootout here as both teams give up less than 18PPG.
Bruce (5-2) @ Calhoun City (6-0)
Speaking of big battles within a county, lets take a look in Calhoun County. The Trojans and Wildcats simply do not like each other and that is nothing new. This is a true test of two teams that go about their business in completely different ways. Bruce has been more of a high flying offense and has for the most part just gone out and outscored opponents as they’ve already rushed for over 2,000 yards on the year. Calhoun City brings a nasty defense to the table, per usual, and has only given up 47 points on the year as a whole, with 18 of those coming from Nettleton back in September.
Germantown (4-3) @ #6 Tupelo (5-2)
No one was paying Germantown much attention until they knocked off Starkville for the first time in school history last week, now they have plenty of eyes on them. The Golden Wave of Tupelo got back to their winning ways last week on the road at Madison Central, which historically is a very difficult place to play. After a bit of a sputter last week, can the Golden Wave offense get back where they were earlier in the year?
Humphreys County (6-1) @ Winona (7-0)
Is it too early to say this is for the Region 3-3A win? Winona is averaging well over 40PPG and Humphreys County is averaging over 30PPG itself. Will either defense be able to make a stop?
