Capturing the OK- Gold Championship once again and establishing themselves as a top dog in D5, GRCC has plenty of players that make this machine do what it does year in and year out. This article is going to highlight some of the fantastic athletes Catholic Central has to offer.
Kellen Russell- Dixon, RB/DB- Kellen was as advertised on Friday night. He’s a true every down back that can do anything. He splits defenders and makes them miss with quick lateral moves, he gets through the hole with speed and aggression, and he can run right over defenders when the time comes. He runs extremely hard, and doesn’t take a play off, and when it was time to put the game away at the end, GRCC put the ball in his hands to pound out the rest of the clock, and he was extremely successful, leading his team to a win and conference title!
Connor Wolf Connor Wolf 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2024 State MI , QB/DB- Connor does a lot for this team, but I was really impressed with how he handled the extremely difficult conditions on Friday night. He made the throws he needed to but never forced it and only took what he knew he could complete. I feel like I was robbed of getting to see his full potential due to the difficult weather, but I was still really impressed by him and I hope I can catch this GRCC team when the weather is better so I can really see him ball out!
Brendan Roehr, OL– This was probably my favorite watch of the night. Play after play I found my eyes wandering to big 77 and what he was doing. This dude was absolutely mauling defenders. He was pancaking guys left and right, and showing off a big frame, technical approach and a nasty attitude. I know he has received a few lower level offers, but D3 teams and even some D2 teams need to be checking in with Brendan. Seriously, he may be the best offensive lineman performance I have seen in 2023.
Brayden Sweeney Brayden Sweeney 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2026 State MI , DB- I was shocked to learn that Brayden is a sophomore! He was a really interesting discovery. He was in lockstep most of the night with the South Christian receivers, and showed good technique to bat balls away. He was tested a couple times fairly early in the game, even once in the end zone and he batted them away nicely. I am really excited as he could be another really solid DB prospect that may be flying under some radars, but that’s about to change!
Brendan Napieralski Brendan Napieralski 6'3" | 265 lbs | OL Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2024 State MI , DL- Brendan was getting great push and was creating a ton of pressure on South Christian all night long. He was consistently in the backfield play in and play out. He fires off fast, stays low, and he possesses a nice tool bag of moves to get by offensive linemen. He even walked out of this one with a blocked XP, which was also nice to see. I could see someone getting a real still with him on their roster at the next level!
