Garden Spot. A few years ago Garden Spot had a long losing streak that stretched over multiple seasons and now Friday after they beat Ephrata 42-22 they are now 6-0 on the year. Head Coach Matt Zamperini is back at Garde Spot for his 2nd stint as Head Coach at Garden Spot and he has them playing some great football. Garden Spot has a great match-up against 6-0 Twin Valley next week.
Coach of the week:
Bud Kyle Eastern York. In Bud Kyle’s 2nd season as Head Coach of Eastern York, he has them playing some good football. They improved to 5-1 on the year after a 39-14 win over West York. Bud Kyle was Head Coach at Columbia prior to Eastern York and made a similar improvement there. They are looking to get to 6 wins next week.
Play of the week:
Jet sweep is a staple for almost every High School football team. It is simply a handoff by a ball carrier who comes in motion and runs to the outside with the football. When I started coaching in 2006 we started using it and most teams at the time had not seen it used much in this area. Now most teams run it, especially with their best player.
Prospects of the week:
Highlights
Elijah Cuningham Lancaster Catholic. Cunningham continues to put up eye-popping numbers each week. He rushed for 332 yards and 5 touchdowns in a 61-23 win over Hamburg. Cunningham is a special player who is a tough runner to bring down, but can also run it to the house anytime.
Highlights
Bryce Staretz Bryce Staretz 6'1" | 215 lbs | RB Cumberland Valley | 2024 State PA Cumberland Valley. Staretz jumped on my radar in the off-season when I saw him film and how impressive he is as a player. Last week in a 35-20 win over Chambersburg Staretz rushed for 255 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win. He is a talented player to keep an eye on the rest of the way.
Nizeah Mummert Nizeah Mummert 6'0" | 185 lbs | WR Spring Grove | 2024 State PA Spring Grove. Mummert is a homerun ready to happen every time he touches the ball. Mummert rushed for 172 yards and 3 touchdowns in Spring Grove’s 66-27 win over Northeastern. Mummert is a talented prospect to keep an eye on.
Highlights
Mateo Crummel Mateo Crummel 5'11" | 150 lbs | ATH Central Dauphin | 2024 State PA Central Dauphin. Crummel a talented offensive player caught 6 passes for 209 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 50-16 win over Carlisle. Crummel is a good wide receiver that shows good speed and catches the ball well. Central Dauphin is a much-improved team this year and Crummel is one of the reasons why.
Jaeion Perry Jaeion Perry 6'1" | 185 lbs | ATH Steelton-Highspire | 2024 State PA Steelton-Highspire. Plenty of players on Steelton get the attention, but not to be overshadowed is Perry. Perry caught 5 passes for 158 yards and 3 touchdowns last week in their win over Middletown 48-7. Perry is a talented player who has good hands and catches the ball well in traffic.
