By now, most teams have a good idea of where they stand – whether they’re poised to make it to the playoffs, or building for next year. However, there are still some teams hoping to prove their worth in the last week and secure a spot in the playoffs. I will be previewing each game for week 9 by conference for the 5A level. The Midwestern League is up next. For each game, I’ll provide a prediction and highlight some players to watch for each team based on their recent performances.
#5 Thurston (6-2) @ Churchill (3-5)
Prediction: Thurston def. Churchill 56-20.
Thurston is a great team that has only improved since the start of the season. They are expected to win their upcoming game against Churchill and enter the playoffs with a winning streak of 7 games. The Colts are a tough team to beat in the playoffs this year. As for Churchill, if they manage to cause an upset this week, it might give them a chance to make it to the playoffs, but it’s unlikely.

Eagle Point (5-3) @ #7 Springfield (7-1)
Prediction: Springfield def. Eagle Point 31-13.
Springfield has had an impressive season and is prepared to demonstrate their abilities in the playoffs. However, they must first defeat Eagle Point, who are also vying for a playoff spot. Eagle Point is aware that their playoff chances may be jeopardized depending on their performance in this game. However, if they win, they will secure their place in the playoffs. The outcome of this game is crucial, and if Springfield underestimates their opponents, they may suffer a defeat at home. Eagle Point’s season is on the line, and they will be fighting hard to secure their spot in the playoffs.

Crater (3-5) @ South Eugene (2-6)
Prediction: Crater def. South Eugene 35-7.
Crater is right on the edge of the playoffs, and if one of the teams in the top 16 loses this week, they might be the team that jumps in to take a playoff spot. That is all under the assumption that they take care of an inferior South Eugene team this week, who will not back down and look to take their conference rivals out of the playoff race. I expect Crater to win this game and hope certain teams lose this week.

North Eugene (2-6) @ Willamette (0-8)
Prediction: North Eugene def. Willamette 21-28.
Willamette is a solid team, and they should give North Eugene a tough challenge on their home turf. However, I believe North Eugene is the superior team and will come away victorious. This game won’t have any playoff implications, but it’s still important for both teams to play with pride and build toward next season. Willamette will be looking to avoid a winless season, while North Eugene will be aiming to end with a respectable 3-win record.
