It is time for our weekly look at what we learned from week 1 of the season. In this article, we highlight teams and players that opened plenty of eyes from a weekend of football. Let’s get our Labor Day started off in an interesting fashion.
Starting things off with the defending 7-A state champions, the Bryant Hornets. The Hornets have reeled off two straight wins to start the season. Bryant has victories over Benton and Christian Brothers High School out of Missouri. In the two games to start the season, James Martin James Martin 5'10" | 200 lbs | RB Bryant | 2024 State AR , Daniel Anderson, and Mytorian Singleton Mytorian Singleton 6'0" | 180 lbs | WR Bryant | 2024 State AR have been difficult for opposing defenses to contain. This Friday night the Hornets take on Little Rock Parkview in what has the potential to be a great game this week.
Staying in the 7-A conference, we shift our focus to the Rogers Mounties. The Mounties have a nice one-two punch at the running back position this season. Jacob Jenkins Jacob Jenkins 6'1" | 195 lbs | LB Rogers | 2024 State AR is a running back that can carry the ball between the tackles or cut the run to the outside. Jenkins is an extremely patient running back and allows the lanes to develop. Meanwhile, Issac Chapman is a punishing runner and seeks to run opposing defenders over when he finds the end zone. Rogers takes on Farmington this Friday in what should be an interesting contest.
Looking in the central Arkansas area of the state now. Pulaski Academy finished last season with a state championship and appear to have reloaded for this season. Bruins’ signal caller Brandon Cobb Brandon Cobb 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB Pulaski Academy | 2025 State AR is off to a strong start this season. Cobb is fitting the ball into his wide receivers and is showing that he is not afraid to test the opposing defense with the deep ball. The Bruins will play host to the Russellville Cyclones this Friday night. Pulaski Academy is a deep to watch out for as the season progresses.
Closing out our look back at week one with a look at Central Arkansas Christian. Grayson Wilson Grayson Wilson 6'4" | 190 lbs | QB Central Arkansas Christian | 2025 State AR looks to be in mid-season form with how well he has thrown the football to start the season. Wilson has been extremely accurate and has not been afraid to test the opposing secondary with the deep ball this season. In what has the potential to be an excellent game, Central Arkansas Christian takes on Bauxite this Friday night. Two future Arkansas Razorbacks will take the field this week in Bauxite’s Marcus Wimberly Marcus Wimberly 6'1" | 170 lbs | DB Bauxite | 2025 State AR and Central Arkansas Christian’s Grayson Wilson Grayson Wilson 6'4" | 190 lbs | QB Central Arkansas Christian | 2025 State AR . The potential exists for a fantastic game this week.
