The 2024 class is already set up to be a very special one with several elite prospects emerging left and right. To highlight more seniors, I am starting the “Uncommitted Senior Spotlight” series. This series will “spotlight” some of the top uncommitted senior prospects from around the state.
We’ll kick off the series with some small school ballers. I picked a few players from Class C2 and smaller to find some small-town hidden gems.
Dylon Lueking Dylon Lueking 6'3" | 215 lbs | LB Elgin/Pope John | 2024 State NE | LB | Elgin/Pope John | 6’2″ 215 lbs
One player who has quietly made a huge jump from last season is EPPJ’s Dylon Lueking Dylon Lueking 6'3" | 215 lbs | LB Elgin/Pope John | 2024 State NE . Now at a bulkier 215 pounds, Dylon has been bringing the pain on defense with 49 tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, and three interceptions through 4 games. Dylon is a well-rounded defender, showing that he can play the run and drop back in coverage very well from the inside LB spot. Dylon recognizes plays very well and is quick to break on the ball. When playing the run, he is explosive when shooting his gaps and is a sure tackler when he gets to his spot. He’s an imposing presence in pass coverage, with his ability to lay out receivers who try to make a play over the middle of the field. He’s very reactive and possesses good ball skills— will challenge receivers at the catch point. This translates over to offense where Dylon has accumulated 11 receptions for 220 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns. Physical, throwback linebacker who can also be an asset against the pass.
Brayden Harms Brayden Harms 6'2" | 195 lbs | DL Weeping Water | 2024 State NE | DL/EDGE | Weeping Water | 6’2″ 195 lbs
Back to his terrorizing ways, Weeping Water’s Brayden Harms Brayden Harms 6'2" | 195 lbs | DL Weeping Water | 2024 State NE has picked up right where he left off last season. Through 5 games, Brayden has racked up 43 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries (could be off by a few). Harms is quick off the ball and has a non-stop pursuit of the ball. He’s very lengthy and does a great job at separating from blocks at the LOS, also showing solid hand usage to break free. Brayden likely projects as a DE/EDGE rusher at the next level, but I must say he had some impressive blocks on offense. Look forward to seeing more tape from Brayden!
Cameron Korth Cameron Korth 6'2" | 150 lbs | DB Battle Creek | 2024 State NE | WR/ATH | Battle Creek | 6’2″ 150 lbs
Battle Creek is off to a dominant start to the season with a big matchup coming up! One player who could be an X-factor this week is WR/DB Cameron Korth Cameron Korth 6'2" | 150 lbs | DB Battle Creek | 2024 State NE . Despite playing in a run-heavy offense, Cameron has still found a nice role on offense with 12 receptions for 165 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Korth does a great job getting open and seems to have good chemistry with his QB to find each other when plays break down. Tough receiver who can make catches through contact. Great overall athlete— Korth had several great returns on punts and kickoffs. Defensively, I didn’t get to see a ton of Cameron’s pass coverage reps, but he shows to be a physical DB who is willing to step in and make tackles against the run. Sleeper prospect from a great program!
Trey Appelt Trey Appelt 6'4" | 195 lbs | ATH Ainsworth | 2024 State NE | 2024 | DL/EDGE | Ainsworth | 6’4″ 195 lbs
Husker-commit Carter Nelson Carter Nelson 6'5" | 215 lbs | TE Ainsworth | 2024 State NE might eat up the majority of headlines coming out of Ainsworth, but you definitely can’t overlook some of the talent around him. Fellow senior Trey Appelt Trey Appelt 6'4" | 195 lbs | ATH Ainsworth | 2024 State NE is a player who should be picking up more looks with the start of the season he’s had and high-upside athleticism. He does have potential at tight end, but where he’s really impressed is on defense where he’s racked up 39 tackles, 13 TFLs, 5 sacks, and a fumble recovery. Appelt does a great job using his lengthy 6’4″ frame to create separation at the LOS. He’s very relentless in his pursuit and has the speed/quickness to track down scrambling ball carriers. In the 8-man system, Trey plays a stand-up edge rusher role, but I’m interested if he could transition to a DE at the next level with some added bulk to his frame. A lot to like about Trey and his high ceiling!
