Prep Redzone Players of the Week
Offensive POTW
One of the best playmakers from the Class 2A ranks, Meza was unstoppable last Friday in the Tigers win over Waverly Central, producing yards and big plays on both sides of the ball as well as four total touchdowns on the night. Meza had his way with the Tigers defense last week, getting deep on the receivers or breaking loose for big gains, doing so both from catching passes and churning out yards on the ground. Meza is the top go-to target for the Tigers offense and I expect him to continue putting up big games like this the rest of the 2023 season. Game Stats: 4 rec. for 154 yds & 3 TD’s (6 carr. for 85 yds & 1 TD)
Defensive POTW
Who produces 30 tackles in one game? This guy does as last Friday in the Tigers 45-38 win over Bolivar Central, DeLoach had a breakout party where he was flying around everywhere, making just about every tackle possible while also causing havoc in the opponent’s backfield. So far this season, DeLoach has become one of the top tacklers in the entire state as he is producing at a high level in all three games played to this point. I don’t foresee him slowing down his effort or production anytime soon, so don’t be surprised to see this West TN talent make this list again somewhere down the road. Game Stats: 30 tcks, 6 TFL, 1 FF, 3 QBH & 1 sack
Positional Players of the Week
QB: Drake Fisher Drake Fisher 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Sullivan East | 2024 State TN – Sullivan-East: 22-40 passing for 384 yds & 5 TD’s
– This East TN quarterback has been on fire so far this year with his best game yet coming last Friday. Fisher is being allowed to sling it all over the field, which in turn is boosting his talents and his college recruitment.
RB: Eric Jones Eric Jones 6'0" | 195 lbs | RB Franklin Co. | 2024 State TN – Franklin Co.: 30 carr. for 280 yds & 4 TD’s; 2 rec. 33 yds (6 tcks on Def.)
– Jones was on fire last Friday as the Rebels top playmaker as produced a big game from running back while also contributing both at receiver and defensive back. This guy is one of the more underrated talents we have from our senior class.
WR/TE: Braylon Long – Sequatchie Co.: 3 rec. for 180 yds & 3 TD’s
– Long only needed three catches to make this list but he made each one worth it as this Indians wideout scored all three times he touched the ball. He was an excellent go-to guy during the Indians win last Friday over Watertown.
OL: Moore Co. Raiders
– The Raiders are 3-0 to start the season with their offense being a dominant unit, including their RB’s Dawson White Dawson White 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Moore Co. | 2024 TN and Logan Hegwood, who both ran for over 150 yards and both had 3 touchdown’s a piece. They were allowed open holes to run through all night by their offensive line, led by senior Sawyer Parks Sawyer Parks 6'3" | 280 lbs | OL Moore Co. | 2024 TN .
ATH: Kamron Haymon Kamron Haymon 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Hardin Co. | 2024 State TN – Hardin Co.: 11 carr. for 120 yds & 1 TD (3 Int’s on Def.)
– One of the more underrated talents from the West TN region, Haymon had a big night last Friday where he produced running the ball on offense while he was an absolute ball hawk on defense, picking off three passes on the night.
DL: ‘25 Car’lando Barton – FCS: 15 tcks, 4 TFL & 3 sacks
– Barton has been a stud for two years now, putting up big numbers on a consistent basis. He had another stellar game last Friday where he caused havoc on the quarterback all night long, helping push his Commanders team to a 3-0 start.
LB: ‘25 Austin Howard Austin Howard 6'3" | 225 lbs | LB Bartlett | 2025 State TN – Bartlett: 8 tcks, 5 QB hurries, 2 sacks & 1 blocked punt
– The Panthers had a huge bounce back win last week with Howard being a major cause within their victory. This junior edge rusher played in the backfield all night and easily the hardest Panther defender to block throughout the game.
DB: Taeshawn Jefferson Taeshawn Jefferson 5'9" | 185 lbs | DB Germantown | 2024 TN – Germantown: 3 tcks, 1 Int & 1 blocked PAT
– Jefferson was a major force and reason behind the Red Devils one point victory over Houston last week. He produced two of the biggest plays of the game with his interception and blocked PAT that sealed the deal.
