In 5A, the main highlight was Wilsonville’s victory over Thurston, a top program, with a score of 44-15. As week two approaches, teams will focus on maintaining their unbeaten records or securing their first win of the season to avoid a downward spiral. Here is a look into the week two matchups for every 5A squad.
#1 Wilsonville (1-0) @ (6A) Westview (0-1)
Prediction: Wilsonville def. Westview 45-14.
In my opinion, Wilsonville is likely to dominate in the upcoming game against Westview. Last week, Westview had difficulty scoring against Clackamas, and they are expected to have a similar problem against Wilsonville, who are the favorites to win the 5A title. Unless Westview’s QB, Lucas State-Bowman, dusts off week one and steps up his game, their chances of winning are slim. On the other hand, Kallen Gutridge Kallen Gutridge 6'4" | 195 lbs | QB Wilsonville | 2024 State OR is expected to perform well for Wilsonville. Here is one player to watch from each team in this game:
Heath Thompson Heath Thompson 6'1" | 205 lbs | RB Westview | 2026 State OR
Heath Thompson Heath Thompson 6'1" | 205 lbs | RB Westview | 2026 State OR
#2 Summit (0-1) @ #4 Thurston (0-1)
Prediction: Summit def. Thurston 35-21.
Both of these teams experienced tough losses in week 1, but it’s worth noting that they played against two of the top teams in the state. Summit’s tight end, Charlie Crowell Charlie Crowell 6'5" | 240 lbs | TE Summit | 2024 State OR , was the standout player in week 1, with 113 receiving yards and a touchdown against an imposing defensive back group from Tualatin. If Summit wants to secure a win, they must rely heavily on their running game and take advantage of the questionable defensive line of Thurston. Lombel Doreen Lombel Doreen 5'7" | 155 lbs | ATH Thurston | 2024 State OR was Thurston’s standout player in week 1, but in order to avoid starting 0-2, they need to involve their other skilled players. Here’s one player to watch from each team in this game:
Lebanon (0-1) @ #3 West Albany (1-0)
Prediction: West Albany def. Lebanon 31-13.
Lebanon lost unexpectedly in week 1 to McKay, with a final score of 28-31. However, the Scots played better than most anticipated, and Lebanon still performed well. For them to have a chance of winning against an even stronger West Albany team, they will have to rely heavily on their star players. The West Albany team was dominant against Corvallis last week and is expected to be the favorite in this game. Brysen Kachel Brysen Kachel 6'3" | 225 lbs | LB West Albany | 2024 State OR and Austin Simmons Austin Simmons 6'5" | 220 lbs | TE West Albany | 2025 State OR played outstandingly last week, and it will be interesting to see how they perform against Hayden George Hayden George 6'4" | 235 lbs | TE Lebanon | 2024 State OR and Wyatt Wessel Wyatt Wessel 6'3" | 220 lbs | LB Lebanon | 2024 State OR this week. The run game will be essential to secure a win, particularly with the quarterback. Here’s a player from each team to look out for in this game:
Highlights
Woodburn (0-1) @ #5 Silverton (1-0)
Prediction: Silverton def. Woodburn 42-7.
Silverton defeated a solid Dallas squad 34-7 last week, so I expect them to have no problem against an inferior Woodburn team. Here’s a player from each team to watch in this game:

Churchill (0-1) @ #6 Mountain View (1-0)
Prediction: Mountian View def. Churchill 35-20.
Churchill played the #3 team in 4A very well in Marist, losing by just one point. With that being said, Mountain View dismantled Canby 49-20, a team that I was very high on before the year. If Mountain View can hold Canby’s high-powered offense, they should be able to do the same. Here is one player from each team to watch in this game:
Angel Valenzuela Angel Valenzuela 5'11" | 205 lbs | RB Mountain View | 2026 State OR
Angel Valenzuela Angel Valenzuela 5'11" | 205 lbs | RB Mountain View | 2026 State OR
(4A) #3 Marist Catholic (1-0) @ #7 Springfield (1-0)
Prediction: Springfield def. Marist 38-30.
This upcoming game promises to be exciting as Springfield Head Coach Frank Geske prepares to face the team he coached for 15 years. Both teams had impressive wins in week 1, and it is expected to be a closely contested match as both teams have a lot of talented players. In this game, I think Springfield has the advantage since Geske and lineman Sam Keen Sam Keen 6'3" | 290 lbs | OL Springfield | 2024 State OR will be eager to beat their former team, and I believe that their roster is more well-rounded than Marist’s. #8 Canby (0-1) @ #9 (6A) Oregon City (1-0)
Prediction: Oregon City def. Canby 20-14.
It is expected to be an exciting game this week as Canby underperformed in week one while Oregon City played well. Canby will likely try and prove that their previous week’s performance was not up to their standard. At the same time, Oregon City will attempt to maintain their momentum after their 27-0 win against Jefferson. Here is one player to watch from each team in this game:
#9 Dallas (0-1) @ #10 McKay (1-0)
Prediction: McKay def. Dallas 26-21.
I like the way McKay played versus Lebanon in week 1. I did not like the way Dallas played versus Silverton in week 1. McKay surprised me, and I am going to roll with their momentum. I might be punishing Dallas a bit too much for playing such a talented Silverton team, but until I see something positive from them, it will be hard for me to predict them to beat a team like McKay.
