West Point @ Tupelo
The Green Wave heads to the blue turf in Tupelo for what many consider to be the game of the week. It still feels odd to look at this week’d power rankings and not see West Point listed, but a win this week would go a long way into getting back in the hunt. The matchup to watch will be the stingy Golden Wave defense against the heralded West Point power rushing attack led by Kahnen Daniels Kahnen Daniels 6'1" | 185 lbs | RB West Point | 2024 State MS and his 13 TD’s so far this year. Tupelo’s offense led by QB Jeremiah Harrell Jeremiah Harrell 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Tupelo | 2024 State MS is flying under the radar. Plenty of college talent will be sprayed all over the field in this one.
Louisville @ Houston
A battle of unbeatens will take place in Chickasaw County in a 2022 North Half Title game rematch. The last two weeks have been special for the Wildcats beating Starkville in an upset and then hanging onto life to defeat Noxubee County 7-6 last week. Without a doubt this week poses the greatest test so far for Houston and Coach Baylor Dampeer who are led by a dynamic run game with Steele Brooks Steele Brooks 5'11" | 180 lbs | QB Houston | 2024 MS and Jalen Washington Jalen Washington 5'8" | 190 lbs | RB Houston | 2024 State MS .
Charleston @ Winona
Two of the top “small schools” in the state will face off on Friday night in Winona in a top tier 2A vs 3A battle. Expect points to be scored on both sides as both teams like where they are with the ball in their hands and expect both to be very much in the conversation of their respective classifications come year end. Mississippi State commits T.J. Lockhart and Fred Clark Fred Clark 6'2" | 205 lbs | LB Winona | 2024 State MS will be on display for Winona.
Jackson Prep @ West Jones
Much like we had last week, a crossover MAIS – MHSAA battle is featured in this week’s slate of games. The Patriots are largely thought of as among the top tier in MAIS and West Jones has creeped into the Top 10 Power Rankings in the last couple of weeks. Question to watch will be how the Prep offense translates against one of the top defenses in the state. Several of the above mentioned games could be shootouts, but don’t expect one here.
Kossuth @ Booneville
It is hard to believe that we have reached division play in some areas of the state, but it kicks off tonight in Region 1-4A in Booneville. Both offenses are averaging in the 30 points per game range but will find out more about where they stand as division play begins. Blue Devil QB Noah Gillon Noah Gillon 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Booneville | 2025 State MS projects to be one of the top signal callers in the class for 2025.
