They were losing the battle in the trenches, and it really hurt them early, and then things kind of spiraled from there. East Grand Rapids was a tough opponent though, and Lowell still has plenty to look forward to this season. There were multiple athletes I saw from them that looked to be really solid prospects, and some X-Factor players for them now that they are hitting the meat of the schedule. This article will highlight some of the Red Arrow athletes that I think performed well, and could be big for them heading into the next section of this season.

Jackson displayed some natural ability on Friday, and I was actually impressed. He didn’t have a ton of opportunity to stand in a clean pocket, but he showed a lot of poise under pressure. I think he was a lot more comfortable tucking it and running, and he actually did that quite well. The QB leads were some of the most successful plays for the Red Arrows against a stingy EGR defense. He didn’t get to show off the throwing ability as much as I would have liked to see, as he was often times tucking and running. The times I did see him throw I didn’t see anything negative at all, as it was typically accurate and showed plenty of arm strength. Between what I was able to observe, and the fact that he is getting some college looks now, I know he has more to show than what happened at EGR. I would like to see him play again at some point to see what he can really do.
Xavier Young
Xavier Young
Xavier was one of the best athletes on the field regardless of team. Even as the offense was struggling, especially in the first half, it was clear that Young was a pretty special athlete. He was running very clean routes, and was able to turn on the burners past some solid DBs. Unfortunately it was too late often times as the pressure in the backfield was making it difficult to get it to him. The moment I saw the full potential was the last play of the first half, as his QB was scrambling with no time left, and chucked the ball up into the end zone, Young went up and got it between 3 EGR defenders. He never gave up on the play, and went up higher than anyone else to grab the ball to secure the first Lowell points of the evening. Everything I saw from him, even on a tough offensive night overall, was that this kid has the potential to be a Saturday player.
Ben Gaskin
Ben Gaskin
Gaskin was another one that showed some potential when he had the chance. Overall, I was really impressed with his run after catch, as you could tell he was a very natural runner. He had good vision when he got the ball in his hands to shimmy away from some of the tacklers coming his way. His route running was very good also, and he actually was quietly blocking extremely well on the outside, especially on those QB designed runs. He showed some really good football IQ, as he was able to find the soft spot in the defensive coverage and sit down in it. Not every time did the ball come his way, but it definitely said something that he was in good position more often than not.
Jacob Graham
Jacob Graham
While the overall performance of the line wasn’t what Lowell wanted it to be, Graham was one of the bright spots for the Red Arrow offense. He had quite a few examples in pass protection where his defender dipped his shoulder, and he immediately drove him to the ground. He wasn’t letting much past him all night long against the tough EGR defense. On the ground attack, he was able to get good initial push off the line, and get to the second level. I was impressed with him, and would love to see some more of him, as he showed a bit of potential at maybe the D3/NAIA level at least.
