Woodbridge improved to 2-3 and 1-0 in conference play while Hylton’s three game winning streak came to an end as they fell to 3-2 overall. The game was vital for the home squad Vikings who had been scuffling lately and did not want to head into their bye week with a third consecutive loss.
Denzel Lambert, Denari Hill Denari Hill 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB Woodbridge | 2027 VA and their entire defensive unit were determined not to let that happen as Woodbridge received the much needed win. Here are a few of my standouts below:
Collin Hughes Collin Hughes 6'2" | 225 lbs | DL Hylton | 2024 State VA
Collin Hughes Collin Hughes 6'2" | 225 lbs | DL Hylton | 2024 State VA
There was a moment about midway through the third quarter where I thought Collin Hughes Collin Hughes 6’2″ | 225 lbs | DL Hylton | 2024 State VA was going to will Hylton to their fourth consecutive win. Until Lambert took off, this young man was dominating the line of scrimmage and was nearly unblockable. Much like he has done all year, Hughes was terrorizing the quarterbacks and was also making plays in pass coverage.
Hughes had back to back plays in the second half where I said, he’s going to win this game for the Bulldogs himself. This was the second time I watched him in person and he is always around the football, this young man deserves to be on college coaches radar.
Denzel Lambert
Denzel Lambert
Admittedly I was anxious to watch Lambert play as all he had done on tape was make defenders look foolish. He did not disappoint this weekend as he was the catalyst that woke up the Vikings offense. Struggling with penalties and turnovers through 2 and half quarters, Lambert electrified the home crowd with his impact plays.
After he nearly took a punt return to the house, on 3rd and 18 he got behind the defense and hauled in a touchdown pass to break the scoring draught. The next offensive possesion, he took a screen pass 52 yards to set up Woodbridge in the redzone. This was all his team needed to put this contest away, but man can this kid play.
Attention college coaches he is 6’3 with good speed and exceptional hands, please take notice before you miss out.
Moses Kamara
Moses Kamara
Senior wide receiver Moses Kamara is not to be ignored opposite side of Lambert, he too had himself a night. Woodbridge’s offense was starting to roll but with the game only 14-0, the Vikings had a 4th down situation upcoming. Freshman quarterback Denari Hill Denari Hill 6’2″ | 175 lbs | QB Woodbridge | 2027 VA was scrambling and under duress but found Kamara over the middle for the score. That effectively ended the game, but how about the senior bailing out his freshman quarterback on this play. This just goes to show Woodbridge Head Coach Jimmy Longerbeam has a team full of dudes willing to do whatever it takes to win.
Dominic Williams
Dominic Williams
The entire Woodbridge defense deserves credit for pitching a shutout, one of the many standouts though was senior defensive lineman Dominic Williams. Williams plays both defensive end and linebacker for the Vikings and he made countless moments all over Friday night. On the evening I marked him down for 3 hurries, 2 quarterback hits, 1 sack, 1 pass break up and 1 interception, pretty good night if I say so myself.
