Continue ReadingAs we head into week four of the Texas High School Football season, there have been players around the state who have been extremely valuable to their teams success. Whether it was making a head topping catch in traffic against press coverage, to making a one handed grab in the corner of the end zone for a TD or making that big hit for a loss behind the line of scrimmage, these ballers have shown up and shown out. We spotlight several ballers from around that State of Texas who are making headlines early on this season.
Maynard is a big body, athletic, wideout who can run by defenders to create separation and he has the skill set to leap, extend using his large catch radius to win on the 50/50 contested grabs. Karson is off to hot start to the season and is a key cog in the Melissa offense. Melissa is off to 3-0 start to the season and Maynard’s game breaking play is a main reason that the Cardinals offense is flying high. Against China Spring, Karson set it off, with a 10 catch, 194 yard, 3 touchdown performance, while averaging 19.4 yards a catch. His recruiting stock is trending upward, as UNT, UTSA, Sam Houston State, Louisiana Tech and UIW are just a few college programs who have pulled the trigger sending offers his way.

Dunn can flat out fly!!!. He is a threat to make a big play anytime he touches the football and Dunn can score from anywhere on the field no matter the down or distance. Lincoln is shifty in space, he is phonebooth quick with the speed to shift gears in a hurry and he has the long speed to separate at the second level in the open field. Dunn is a route technician, he gets in and out of his breaks quickly, which allows him to create separation consistently. Lincoln tracks the football well in flight with late hands and he has the explosive burst when he sees the ball to break free from coverage. Dunn has been on a tear the first three weeks of the season, catching 12 balls for 150 yards and touchdown in big win versus China Spring in week two. The speedster has picked up offers from Army, Air Force, Georgetown and Fordham but you can expect that list to grow as the season progresses.

Taylor is a big play threat with the football in his hands, he excels at running after the catch, showing off an explosive burst that enables him to separate from defenders and these big plays have contributed to his hot start early on this season. Brandon has elite body control, he uses his extended reach in press coverage to create space and his ability to elevate, extend and come down with contested catches are traits that stick out in his game. In a week two win versus Bush High School, Taylor exploded for 156 yards and 2 touchdowns, while making highlight reel catches and displaying his next level speed and athleticism. Brandon shows off his skills on the basketball court as well, he is one the top guards in his class in the Houston area and Taylor is just as explosive on the basketball court as he is on the gridiron. Arkansas State offered late in the spring but you can expect that number to increase as he continues to give defenses the business this season.

Sekula has been a thorn in offenses side early on this season by being a tackling machine. Jeffrey has great instincts, his ability to read and recognize plays quickly enables him to play fast, he takes proper angles to the ball carrier and he comes downhill with violent intentions. His ability to time his blitzes perfectly, allows him to disrupt the offensive timing of his opponent and Sekula has been able to apply pressure on passing downs consistently. At 6’0 200 lbs., Sekula has the length and size to take on blocks, using his strength combined with his closing speed to the ball carrier to arrive in a hurry and he plays with a non-stop motor. By far one of his top plays in his first three games was his hustle to chase down a running back into the red zone, causing a strip fumble, which resulted in a touchback. College programs need to check the tape and watch him in person, Sekula could be a steal to a program with the potential to develop into a valuable defender.
