Both Brandon and Madison Central are expecting significant years in 2023. With these two schools, they always expect to win. Brandon is coming off playing in the state championship game two years in a row, losing both of them, and one of those losses came to Madison Central in 2021. Last season, Brandon got the best of Madison Central in their non-region game early in 2022. Who will come away with the win this Friday night?
Brandon is coming off a home loss to Picayune 28-21, while Madison Central is coming into the game following a win over Ocean Springs 15-14. Brandon will again rely on QB Landon Varnes Landon Varnes 5'11" | 170 lbs | QB Brandon | 2024 State MS and RB Nate Blount IV Nate Blount IV 5'11" | 220 lbs | RB Brandon | 2024 State MS . Varnes played lights out, completing 20 passes for 181 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. He was able to be productive with his arm and avoid the big sack against the Maroon Tide last Friday night. Blount rushed for 64 yards on nine carries while scoring one touchdown. The Maroon Tide defense did a decent job ensuring Blount didn’t beat them.
The Jaguars came away with a win over Ocean Springs 15-14. Their defense had an excellent game and played lights out all night long. The Jaguars will have to find some offense if they plan on coming away with a win on Friday night against Brandon. Their defense will have to pick their poison. Do they stack the box and dare Varnes to light them up through the air, or do they play more of a coverage defense and allow Blount to lower his shoulder and rack up tough yardage on the ground?
My prediction is that Blount gets rolling early and never looks back. I think he has a big night tonight, rushing for 100 yards. The Bulldogs get in the win column with a score of Brandon 24 and Madison Central 13.
